This is good news.
"“The success the Sun Belt has achieved these past three years has clearly shown that the Sun Belt has indeed 'risen' above our two peer conferences — CUSA and MAC,” Benson wrote. “ And that we are well positioned to now compete for our ultimate goal of being the #1 ranked G5 conference — with the highest ranked champion and a berth in one of the New Year’s Day Bowl Games."

Further indication that the Sun Belt has surpassed the CUSA and MAC! MWC and AAC are next to take down..

By the #'s....
G5 is getting $86m. $70m is distributed evenly, the other $16m is divided based on performance.
#1 MWC - $20.4m ($1.7m per school)
#2 AAC - $18.8m ($1.56 per)
#3 SBC - $17.2m ($1.72m per)
#4 CUSA - $15.6m ($1.11m per)
#5 MAC - $14m ($1.17m per)
Avg ranking (based on old BCS computers)
MWC - 78.167
AAC - 80.139
SBC - 83.083
C-USA - 91.262
MAC - 92.986
* Sunbelt is closer to 2nd place AAC than we are to 4th place CUSA.
* Sunbelt has 3 teams receiving votes in the final AP Poll to CUSA's 1.
* Sunbelt has higher total conference and per-school payout from media rights deal.
* Sunbelt has higher total conference and per school payout from CFP.
We have surpassed CUSA (at least in 2018) in every aspect. That said, nobody is moving conferences (CUSA to Sunbelt for example) for an extra $600k per year.
Just for fun though if we were to pry 2 teams away, the Sunbelt's payout divided among 14 members (I say 14 bc its unclear if UTA and UALR get football money even though they don't sponsor football) would be $1.22m per, CUSA's payout divided among 12 would be $1.3m each.
** If somebody is interested in calculating these #s based on a rolling 3 and 5 year average we'd have a better picture of where we really stand.

I’m too lazy to do research. Did the loss by Arky cost us $$$?

If you consider every loss effectively knocks our average ranking down, then yes.

The Sun Belt wouldn’t take them.
