As much as I despise the Eagles, I have to give them some credit for doing this. I don't want to read between the lines of what this might mean in terms of them having or not having an offer, but it is a pretty aggressive approach to the whole thing (which has been their general theme when it comes to trying to move up). Others have said that we're being aggressive behind the scenes. That's all fine and good. But it would be nice to see something like this said publicly by Peacock and Cobb. It would send a more clear message to the fans, the students, and the community who are anxiously waiting for an answer.

Good idea and relatively nice product. The footage of the war eagle's flight is impressive; but those yellow school busses destroy the image...
If we do a video, I hope we leave out the ragamuffin Yosef caricature. It desperately needs to be redone and/or replaced with a student in full period dress.

I see it more as a "this is happening so jump on the bus" rah-rah video. The die is already cast.

I noticed those yellow school buses as well... don't know what they were thinking on that part. I mean, you're marketing yourself as ready for big time football. Felt more like the start of an NFL play 60 commercial.asu66 wrote:Good idea and relatively nice product. Re: Georgia Southern puts out FBS campaign video
You're correct in that this is pretty aggressive and I understand why you and others want more things like this from the PTB's. I am one of those who has said on here that we are being aggressive behind the scenes. There is a reason why we are being a bit more quite this year. Because last year our public statements blew up in our faces. CC came out smelling like something my dog dropped on the porch. And App looked like the needy baby, greedy baby with our public dissing of the SunBelt and our confident statements about our inevitable invite coming from CUSA. No one knew that the BCS was going to throw the hand grenade into the situation with the playoff announcement and all the ramifications that was going to entail and no one knew that it would stop the realignments in their tracks but it did and our public statements pretty much screwed any chances we had once CUSA made the decision to go for market only.appstategrad2008 wrote:

One other thing to remember. Early on it was UNCC, ODU, and GaState that were the ones in the conversation along with us. Southern wasn't even started. JMU, Jax State, Del, SHSU and Liberty were mostly whispers or at most were just entering the conversation while we had already done the study and made the decision. You'll notice those first three got invites. We all know why but it doesn't change the fact that we didn't. The second group is really just in their first year of really looking at the move up (some won't even admit that) while we are in our second (some would say third). They think they have the luxury of waiting to see what comes along and they might but I wouldn't want to bet the farm on that. We, however, do not. There are still things that are out of our control that could prevent an invite but this time the PTB's have decided it's NOT going to be something we say. And frankly I'm fine with that. I want this over as much as anyone but I also know that if we screw this up again with something we say that the whole thing could come crashing down around us.
There are still a dozen different ways this might play out for all of D-1 and many of them are beyond anyone at App's control. But if the admin has decided to take the PUBLIC passive approach then, after last year, I'm fine with that. I just know that when this is all over I will be a very happy man and can start looking forward to spring ball, summer and fall camps, seeing how our new kids are going to fit, watching our new D take shape, seeing Satt's offense hit the ground running (and passing), and truly looking forward to a bright future of App State Football.

Re: Georgia Southern puts out FBS campaign video
I liked the video but I agree that the yellow school buses and the "get on the bus" line cheapened the effect for me. Still they did put a statement out there................
I also agree with 66 that it's time to get a real Yosef in period dress on the field and put the comic rag doll of a Yosef in the stands to humor the kids.

The school buses are a Georgia Southern tradition. Born out of necessity, and kept as a reminder to their beginnings. They own it, and the buses will be around a lot longer than any of us will.
Maybe even the same buses.

I really don't know what people want AppState to do that has not already been done. We have made it crystal clear in no uncertain terms that the university wants to go FBS. Look no further than the ASU athletic plan that we released about a month ago.SpeedkingATL wrote:I liked the video but I agree that the yellow school buses and the "get on the bus" line cheapened the effect for me. As for the video, I really don't understand the point except to make an arguement to people that probably will not change thier mind in the first place... specifically those at GaGa Sou that want to stay in FCS. At the end of the day, those folks will go with the flow when the conference invites are handed out.

Re: Georgia Southern puts out FBS campaign video
Exactly. We talk about traditions on this board a lot, and people complain about copying others. This is a tradition that Georgia Southern owns. It's unique and it is meaningful to them. Van Gorder did away with them, and when he left, it was a huge deal when they were brought back. It's not really important that outsiders love a tradition. It's for them to love...and they do. I have no problem at all with it. I think it's like the "Generic white" uniforms that Penn State loves so much. To me, they look like practice uniforms, but Penn State fans would go crazy if they were changed.AppinVA wrote:The school buses are a Georgia Southern tradition. Re: Georgia Southern puts out FBS campaign video
Just my opinion, but I think the video is targeted at the Georgia Southern fanbase....not at the SunBelt. It's a rallying point to get the fans excited about the future and help them understand the reasons for the move that go beyond athletic competition.GoAppsGo92 wrote:I really don't know what people want AppState to do that has not already been done. Re: Georgia Southern puts out FBS campaign video
I agree with you. I guess it's making an argument that need not be made... as if some still need to be convinced that have a role in the decision. My point is that the folks that care about GSU football have already made up thier mind on the subject... and the video won't change that. Perhaps its for the more casual observer in the Savannah area.Yosef84 wrote:Just my opinion, but I think the video is targeted at the Georgia Southern fanbase....not at the SunBelt. It's very obvious to me why we don't have official updates, statements etc from our Administration. They don't want it to look like they failed.
I find only highly successful and driven people like to make their goals public before hand. Everyone else like to write how they met all their "internal" goals at the end of the year.

The Real Mountaineers, like The Over Mountain Men that defeated The British at the Battle of Kings Mountain, looked nothing like Blowsef!! Bring back the real Yosef !!!!! It's un-American not to do so, really!!!TheMoody1 wrote:GoAppsGo92 wrote:WataugaMan wrote:APPsolutely Agree!!!!!!SpeedkingATL wrote:I also agree with 66 that it's time to get a real Yosef in period dress on the field and put the comic rag doll of a Yosef in the stands to humor the kids.

Re: Georgia Southern puts out FBS campaign video
Surely you aren't implying that Ken Peacock and Charlie Cobb are successful / driven people. If you believe that, then you obviously don't know either of them. Their goals were made public long ago. The problem here is that the fans want the entire road map, and I don't blame anyone for NOT publishing that. In fact, attempting to execute this type of negotiation in full public sight would be extremely counter productive and even damaging to the negotiations.Maddog1956 wrote:It's very obvious to me why we don't have official updates, statements etc from our Administration.
