2020 Coaching Carousel
With the news today that Muschamp is OUT at USC, I have to imagine Sunbelt coaches Billy Napier and Jamey Chadwell top their list.
Freeze is also interesting but he’s making P5 money at Liberty with zero expectations, not sure if Columbia is that appealing.
Interestingly enough I also saw Satterfield mentioned as a target. I laughed.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
They'll never be satisfied unless Paul Dietzel or Joe Morrison returns from the grave. The fan base here in York County said they needed to get a hungry up-and-coming young coach, not some other school's cast off. I told 'em you had that man 5 years ago but Tanner let him go; he's now doing great things at GaState.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
Considering USC plays in the backyard of a perennial national champion and also competes in a conference with several football dynasties, that could be a tough job to fill by any "marquee" names. And they definitely don't need a retread, some new blood wouldn't be a bad thing.
It's probably too much to ask to find a HC candidate that has established relationships with high school HC"s across the state. But the university needs to give whomever they hire more time to rebuild the program and make it competitive. Not something that can be done overnight, especially in a talent-rich state like SC.

I know their fans' heads would explode, but Chadwell should be their guy.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
If I were the cocks, I would go get the beach chickens HC. Jeremy Chadwell would be a good fit IMO. Give him 3-4 years and they will be on the right track in the SEC and competitive against Clemson.

LOL, I truly had no idea who you were referring to until you got to the end of that sentence.scatman77 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 11:23 pmThey'll never be satisfied unless Paul Dietzel or Joe Morrison returns from the grave. I'm sure they're kicking themselves about not hiring the guy whose team is in last place in its Sun Belt division in year 4.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
There's a growing amount of hype behind Freeze to Michigan. I could see that happening.
Chadwell's as good as gone, I'd say. That's the twitter chatter, for sure

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
The better long term hire for USC would be Napier. The better short term hire would be Chadwell. I have faith that Napier can instill and maintain a winning program, I have concerns about Chadwell maintaining the "culture" he brings. I don't know of any gimmicky cultures that last, he reminds me a lot of Fleck. Sounds great, gets people behind him and will have a great season or two but when things get tough they fold and things fall apart.... just my two cents.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
I wouldn't say zero expectations. Liberty hired him because they want their program to continue rising fast. They're not just going to sit by and watch if things start to go down.

I'm not so sure Freeze would be anxious to get back into the SEC where they uncovered all his cheating strategies -

And hookers.
which he buys with cash. So yeah, cold hard cash.
Plus, hes probably already tired of the Lynchburg supply.
man, I never bought into the idea that we broke Michigan football, but if Harbaugh can't get it done there, who can?

We were definitely the straw that broke the camels back. Losing to a IAA team was more the moment that exposed Michigan as opposed to creating the problems.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:18 amAnd hookers.

Michigan has an identity problem. It understandably believes itself to be on par with Ohio State due to history, despite the fact that the two really haven’t been peers for 2 decades now.
Michigan doesn’t need another flashy coaching hire, it needs a full reboot, including accepting that they may have a bad losing season or two to reset. Which is probably impossible to do at a program with their pedigree.
But they are very much in danger of becoming Nebraska.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
Well they didn't give Rich Rodriquez time to make that change - he was in the process of getting the pieces for running a wide-open offense with a true dual threat QB - EXACTLY what Ohio State has become ---

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
Agree with the first part. Michigan - while still a strong program - had been in gradual decline for the better part of a decade by the time we beat them. What accelerated it was the hires of RichRod and then Hoke. Harbaugh has definitely improved the program (before this year anyway), but not enough. And now he may be reaching his expiration date.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:51 amWe were definitely the straw that broke the camels back. I'm not actually sure why they couldn't be on Ohio State's level. Both are facing the same recruiting challenges of being in a geographic region that's in decline, yet OSU just keeps rolling along while Michigan can't seem to figure it out. It's easy to understand why Nebraska is no longer a modern power; in theory Michigan would seem to be better situated.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
I know you may have some residual admiration for RichRod, but I don't think anyone at Michigan felt he had that program going in the right direction on the field or off. He also got six years at Arizona and, after some early success, settled into mediocrity there too.
RichRod and Chip Kelly were ahead of the curve, but now that everyone runs some version of the spread, their offenses aren't a competitive differentiator anymore, and they haven't been able to stay ahead of the game.

No - I agree with you - my point is that they didn't give him time when his ideas were on the forefront - I just don't see the M Club giving anyone that chance again -EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 12:29 pmI know you may have some residual admiration for RichRod, but I don't think anyone at Michigan felt he had that program going in the right direction on the field or off.
