Sun Belt Conference Championship Football Game Canceled
Conway, SC - The Sun Belt Conference Championship Football game between Coastal Carolina and Louisiana has been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Coastal Carolina program. Because of contact tracing, an entire position group would not be available to play due to possible exposure and therefore the game cannot be played.

“We are very disappointed that the championship game cannot be played, but we are so proud of all of the players and staff members and their hard work during this truly challenging season," said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill. "We will honor both teams as 2020 Sun Belt Conference Co-Champions."

Wished we weren’t tied to the bowl game, I’m sure our guys would have loved another shot at the Cajuns. Yes, I know it wouldn’t have happened but hey we’re in the neighborhood.

Really sucks for ULL. They were focused on closing the deal this season.

Also, could hurt Coastal. They may not get a bowl game (based on dates), which would suck to have such a great season and miss out on a Championship Game and a Bowl Game. Jerry Palm has them scheduled to play in the Cure Bowl against Marshall on 12/26. That's only 9 Days Away.

Until Troy/ULM was cancelled, the Sun Belt was on pace to be the only conference in FBS to get all of their conference games in. Now, the Belt comes up one short + no Championship Game.

God knows we’ve had our share of these virus issues. And I know it’s effed the whole college football season up. But, with all Chadwell’s public whining last week, trying to get out of playing Troy (and basically laying this groundwork), I have a hard time believing this isn’t about salvaging “undefeated”. It’s always extremely hard to beat somebody twice in the same season (although we did it two years straight). And they came close to losing their record last weekend. If not for all the belly aching, I might feel different... But, then again, it IS Chadwell...

Idk if I see the committee having that kind of mercy on a G5 losing to a G5. Cincy would probably drop behind CC if they lost.

But let's say they lose and don't drop behind CC. Coastal still gets the G5 autobid over Cincy because to qualify you have to be a G5 conference champ, which Cincy wouldn't be. If Cincy still stays in the top 12 (which again, I doubt), then maaaybe they have a chance as an at large but they may be out by 1 or 2 spots.

I don't trust Chadwell, period. Despite the fact that he has 11 years of experience as a collegiate head football coach, he just always has some sort of drama swirling up around him and his teams. Too much drama...

Agree with this 100%. Call me crazy, but I told some friends last week this would happen. After the whining and complaining last week about having to actually finish their season Chadwell is a used car salesman and a snake.

This is really disappointing for the conference. I do see that Coastal benefits from this and it's not a good look. This is almost as big a spot on their record as losing a close game would have been....almost. I think it would have been a close game, but I think UL was the likely winner.

Cincy will get the NY6. Just have CCU and UL play each other in New Orleans as their bowl selection to settle it. Two championships (conference and bowl) in one game.
