THE RUNDOWN
The University of Arkansas Little Rock is a quasi commuter school and worked in the 90's to shed a bit of the commuter status. There is a continued effort to remove the commuter status as they've recently started requiring freshman to live on campus. The athletic department is run by Chris Peterson. UALR joined the Sun Belt in 1991 as a non-football member though they did sponsor a football team as a junior college, where they were a national powerhouse in the first half of the 20th century.
The basketball team is currently coached by Steve Shields who has a record of 147-128 (all at UALR). The Trojans have seen the NCAA Tournament 4 times and beat Notre Dame in 1986 for their only win. Their last appearance was in 2011 against UNC Asheville.
