Hmm don’t see anything fireable about halls record. It’s just W-L .
Ad even says he was trying super hard. Just doesn’t make sense.

Schools are going to make these decisions earlier due to the portal. I feel like Gillin might have to decide to definitely retain or dismiss Shawn within the next 2 weeks or he will be behind big time in a coaching search if he waits to let him go in December. I bet Southern Miss won't be the last school to dismiss a coach over the next 15 days.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 7:34 pmHmm don’t see anything fireable about halls record. It’s just W-L .

0.1% chance Clark is gone before December. No need wasting time debating this.

If Gillin makes the move I agree he should. I have been thinking there is zero chance too but these moves make me wonder what happens. The buyout drops a lot on Dec 2 but with the portal window and these moves Gillin better have coaches in mind if he makes a move.

Re: Southern Miss fires coach
Yes. I actually posted the thread on here earlier. They did it earlier today several hours before the Southern Miss announcement. That was why I brought it up because now 2 G5 schools have made a move and I bet Southern Miss won't be the last one to do it over the next 15 days or so. I am thinking some of this is to get a jump on a decision so they don't lose any of the portal window.BTK2000 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 9:37 pmEcu already fired HoustonAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 7:48 pmSchools are going to make these decisions earlier due to the portal. Lose the next 2 in epic fashion and there is no telling. I don't think right now that firing him before end of season will change the results. It would give a head start on recruiting a replacement though.

Buyout is $1M right now and drops to $500k on Dec 2. It drops to $300K on Dec 2 next year.appstate24 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 9:13 pmI’m sure this has been said, but what’s the current buyout?
GO APPS!!
I could a situation where a strong finish keeps Clark around for another year, but with a short leash since the drop in buyout isn't nearly as big. He wouldn't be a lame duck next year since there are two years remaining on his contract.

Re: Southern Miss fires coach
I just dont see anyone paying up before the buyout drops. Sorta like when East expansion got talked about, and supposedly people had the money, or were ready to give the money, and we now know how much has actually been secured for East side. We've got Clark through the season. Tbh I don't think what So. Miss or ECU does will affect what we do, if and when the time comes.

Re: Southern Miss fires coach
The optics would be terrible to buy him out at $1 million, given what has happened to the area over the last month. When it drops to $500K, those in his camp will still bitch and moan over what they see as a waste of money, but it will at least be mid six figures. Waiting gives him a fair chance to work his way out of the present situation. If things get better, great. If not, the buyout cost will seem reasonable.

Re: Southern Miss fires coach
Winning season gets him another year. Losing season without Hurricane and he’s gone. Do the circumstances of Helene play into the decision? Perhaps.

I find that people/entities, that want to get something done, will find a way to do it. They don't care about optics and realize it's business. We shall see how motivated and realistic the admin is.

Goalposts keep moving each week.
We went from needing a title.
Making the title game.
Winning the east.
8 win floor.
Winning season. (6wins)
Just beating Southern
Now okay to return after a losing season due to Hurricane.

Re: Southern Miss fires coach
I'm tired of hearing the hurricane as an excuse. It's awful, and a lot of people's lives were ruined. But if we're talking about App State football, the team was sucking way before that hurricane developed. As far as I know, the team didn't miss much practice time, and they still haven't gotten any better.

I know you aren't advocating for this but we were struggling before the hurricane. Our best game came after it. Hurricane is not an excuse IMO.

We really struggled two years ago. Then early last season. Now again. No , the hurricane did not effect the teams performance. Actually its best game might have been afterwards. But the question remains , and thank you I’m not advocating for it , will sympathy come into play in the decision making?

Re: Southern Miss fires coach
I have sympathy on a personal level but it is not like Shawn will be homeless. He has made money. I think an AD has to make a business decision. Football coaches are hired to win games.Stonewall wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 1:42 pmWe really struggled two years ago. Then early last season. Now again.
