Post: #1Really Stupid NCAA Rule alert
NCAA rules committee has proposed that an offense be prohibited from snapping the ball in the first 10 seconds of a play clock to help "player safety"
Naturally, every no huddle coach in the country is throwing a hissy fit right now. Rule was suggested by the University of Arkansas...naturally. ULM is apparently supporting the rule. Someone shut Todd Berry up.

1. Stupid rule
2. It's stupid just like the "no dunk" rule back in the Alcindor days
3. If they institute this stupid rule then add 10 seconds to the play clock; otherwise the delay penalties will come into more prominence
4. NCAA is a big cluster anyway so why does this surprise any of us?

Reminds me on the Boone Town Counsel's controversial poll location changes.

It would take a lot to top the Boone Town Council - really stupid or really partisan or both ---

Why do you always attempt to politicize everything? Good Grief....

I am generally a progressive in favor of change...where it makes common sense.......College coaches would never vote this in.

Apparently, this is being pushed by Nick Saban.

I don't know the answer - do the coaches even get to vote on rules changes? or is it just the administrators?

It is the rules committee that votes. Apparently they want to even the field to allow the defense to substitute.
The NFHS (high school) wants to eliminate any initial contact with thee head during a tackle. I ask does this also take away the stiff arm?

So Saban wants to be able to put fresh D line in ever few snaps to throw off offensive linemen allowing the D to get to the QB quicker because sacking the QB and putting fresh bodies against tired bodies in the trenches will create fewer injuries.
Saban doesn't want to lose to Oregon/Florida/Arizona or other schools who use the offense that he doesn't use.
The rules committee is hiding behind the guise of player safety but really its playing in to the hands of a few big money teams. If they are willing to change the game to this degree for the sake of the Sabans and others like him then they have beyond made it obvious to the world they no longer care about the players and only care about lining their pockets. Yes we all knew this before but I feel this would be one of the worst crossings of that line in many years. The fact that the powers that be enjoy lining their own pockets is probably the only reason players haven't been paid yet.

And if the "powers that be enjoy lining their own pockets" the maybe Northwestern's players have the right idea about unionization. I'm against paying the players other than the scholarship and free education that they get, along with the exposure, but if specifics of the game are to be changed for money reasons then let the people who are providing the services (players) reap some benefits.

Never fear, the NCAA's always here to save the day. I'm gonna throw-up, now.

No way. Just no way.
This must be a joke. What would be the point in having a play clock?

Here is a thought. If they want to reduce head injuries then they should put TACKLING back in the game. How about making leading with one's shoulder illegal?

listening to Sumler, Texas A@M coach, he said none of the teams that run an up tempo offense were included in the discussions, sounds like they were blind sided. Saban is a smart guy, he knows there are few teams that can match his talent and depth at almost every position. He knows the only way he can lose is to not be able to substitute. If he gets this passed it will be total domination by Alabama and a select few.

I doubt seriously Saban is spearheading this - sure if he speaks out against it his comments will be noted - but who out there really wants to institute rules to make it better for Alabama??? -

The people who make money off them. Bowls, tv contracts for bowls, sponsors prefer them over others, basically all kinds of people would make more money if Alabama makes the big game versus oregon, texas a&m, ole miss, and many of the other coaches speaking out right now. Larger fan following=$$.
