Bubas Cup 7 December - Additions to spreadsheet

Nothing new this week for the Bubas Cup. Fall sports regular season ended last weekend. However I did add a new column on the front page of the online spreadsheet and added a new sheet as well.

Near the right side of the spreadsheet are columns for Avg Points per sport "as of" date for sports still in season and of sports finished for the year. These averages only consider the number of SB sports the school sponsors. I added a column to determine the average points per sport of all the SB sports. A school such as UT-A has the highest average due to their doing well in the SB sports they sponsor, but they have only participated in 3 SB sports so far this year. This allows one to look at how a school is doing based on both the conference as a whole and just the SB sports a school sponsors.

I also added an entire new sheet titled Unity Points. I wanted a way to equalize the importance of each sport. Every conference seems to do these Cup points differently. For the SB the points for MSOC is only 6 points so winning the conference regular season could bring the points per sport average down even though the team did the best it could in earning points for that sport. Most SB sports this year do not earn the maximum of 11 points. I set up Unity points by taking the points earned and dividing by points possible for that particular sport. Not sponsoring the sports earns Zero points of course and winning the regular season gives a school 1 point regardless of sport. Coming in the middle of the pack would get you 3 Bubas points and 0.5 Unity points in MSOC. To earn the same 3 Bubas points in Football or Volleyball a school would need to only take 8th place of 11 teams in the standings. But this would only earn 0.27 Unity points.

A different way to look at how schools are shaking out in the standings over all the sports.

All fall sports are done as far as Bubas Cup is concerned. The winter sports have started but not with conference play yet so no points have been assigned for the "As of" column. Until the end of the month the "As of" and "Sports Finished" points and averages will be the same. Once SB basketball play gets under way these two columns will most be different from each other until the winter season wraps up their season and by that point the spring season will be under way.

App Thoughts:
Anyone keeping up with this knows App is leading in total points. We are also leading in my "unity points" of SB sports complete and 2nd place when only looking at averages based on sports sponsored by that school. UT-A has a better average when considering they only sponsor 3 SB fall sports.

Final analysis. App is more than holding their own and not just because we are sponsoring more SB sports.
