If Tx State hadn't lost to USA...
Kinda like the MTSU/WKU debacle a couple of seasons ago. Good luck to all 3 teams!

Somebody will. As long as Ga. State, Idaho and NM State are basically automatic wins for the rest of the league, you're going to have lots of bowl-eligible teams.TheMoody1 wrote:Hopefully App won't end up like Texas State.

Re: Sunbelt Bowls Filled
That's the one thing about the Sun Belt I do not like, other than the travel (for me). This year, there were 4 bowl eligible teams, plus App and Georgia Southern, for a total of 6. If the same scenario plays out next year, there will be 6 bowl eligible teams, but only 4 tie ins.
With 2 bowls in Alabama, 1 in Louisiana and 1 in Florida, what are the odds App is left out if we don't win the conference?

It's probably like what Coach Moore always said about the postseason. Win the conference and the rest will take care of itself.

I believe the Conference Champ is guaranteed a bowl (provided, it's eligible)... So we know what we have to do!kiddbrewer wrote:That's the one thing about the Sun Belt I do not like, other than the travel (for me). Plus... Sun Belt teams can always fill slots left vacant by other conference's tie-ins not being met.

Probably depends on whether one of the Alabama bowls takes GSU. That would be a relatively short trip for them, and I imagine they would bring a lot of fans.kiddbrewer wrote:That's the one thing about the Sun Belt I do not like, other than the travel (for me). If they're off the table for the Cure Bowl, I would guess we'd be picked over any of the other teams.

Re: Sunbelt Bowls Filled
Well, realistically I think the conference champion is not going to get left out of a bowl bid altogether. However, even within the Sun Belt, not all bowls are created equal. New Orleans and Orlando are better destinations (at least IMO) and have better conference opponents (MWC and AAC, vs. MAC) than the two Alabama games. Plus, the GoDaddy Bowl is usually several days into January, which I think makes it less convenient to plan travel than the others, where you can just start your holiday break a couple days early. (Though that wouldn't be great for college students if it conflicts with finals - not sure about that.)CVAPP wrote:It's probably like what Coach Moore always said about the postseason. That is of course assuming that GSU makes 6 wins next year. They declined all season, lose a ton of seniors, and might very well lose their coaches. I'd pick a few teams ahead of the Stink next year in the Belt.EastHallApp wrote:Probably depends on whether one of the Alabama bowls takes GSU. I agree they'll come back to the pack somewhat. However, they return most of their defense, plus Ellison and Breida, and they did have that #2 ranked recruiting class last year.Gonzo wrote:That is of course assuming that GSU makes 6 wins next year. Just as importantly, they'll have the same marshmallow-soft conference schedule they had this year. Add in a game vs. the Citadel and I doubt they'll have much trouble getting bowl-eligible.

Agreed. I wouldn't sell Ga Southern short. That's a lot of wishful thinking that they'll struggle to get to six wins.EastHallApp wrote:I agree they'll come back to the pack somewhat. Re: Sunbelt Bowls Filled
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't every team in each conference divvy up the total conference bowl pay out? So even if we don't get a bowl this year, we get a slice of the pie from the sunbelt. I read one article that said the sunbelt payout increases from about 100k to about 1 million with the new playoffs this year.
I found this article interesting even though it applies to the P5
