Bubas Cup 10 May 2015
Cut and pasted from what I posted at csnbbs.com, with one addition. Now in 7th Bubas.
I think I have the one baseball not on the SB website computed in the standings correctly.
I have prelim points for OTF. About 1/2 of the events for Sunday have been scored it seems. If, and at the rate the scores are coming in, a big if, the results are finalized before I go to bed I will update which means that only baseball would be left for Bubas points.
If the TF points hold on both sides and baseball does not change much next week then this could be the Bubas points for this years. But again, the OTF points are prelim with a good many events left to be posted on Sunday and there is room for some movement in baseball (expect our Mountaineers. I think we are guaranteed last place.)
Points below include OTF and Baseball - Neither are complete as I type this.
South Alabama 109.0
Texas State 102.0
Texas-Arlington 99.5
Louisiana-Lafayette 97.5
Arkansas State 88.5
Georgia State 84.5
Appalachian State 81.5
Troy 78.0
Georgia Southern 72.0
Louisiana-Monroe 63.5
Arkansas-Little Rock 62.0
Hartwick (Associate) 6.0
New Jersey Inst of Tech (Associate) 3.0
Idaho (Associate) 2.5
New Mexico State (Associate) 2.5
Howard (Associate) 1.0

Re: Bubas Cup 10 May 2015
Tough year overall. We knew we'd be stepping up in competition, but it seems App was down in many sports as well.
Exceeded Expectations:
- Football (3rd)
- XC (2nd in both)
- MBB
Met Expectations:
- WSOC
- Volleyball
- W Golf
- WBB
Below:
- WIT&F
- WOT&F
Well Below:
- MSOC
- Tennis (both)
- MOT&F
- MIT&F
- Softball
- M Golf
- Baseball
Men's sports other than football, basketball and XC all seem to be headed the wrong way.

Seeing that baseball has wrapped up sole possession of Dead Last, it is hard to believe they would repeat next season.Saint3333 wrote:Men's sports other than football, basketball and XC all seem to be headed the wrong way.

This is what happens when you have a bunch of sports that you can't fully fund going against schools that have less but fully funded teams. We have 20 sports to fund while the rest of the Sun Belt has 4 schools with 17, 4 schools with 16, and 2 (UTA & UALR) with 14.

App State and ULM are the only all sports members without a championship. Our athletic program has almost always been seen in the bright lights of our football program. Quite frankly, our overall program has never really been that strong a D1 program. Jumping from the SoCon to the Sun Belt has really exposed the lack of competitiveness in our overall program.

Re: Bubas Cup 10 May 2015
Since every sport carries a different point value using the avg per sport is not as straightforward as it may seem. I should have never included that but at the time I was not thinking of the consequences and when I realized what the avg meant/did not mean I was so far into the season I continued. The Unity Points tab, I think is more meaningful as each sport is out of 1.0 points to the winner.hapapp wrote:Points per sport we finished ahead of one school, ULM.
Either way not our finest effort in these Cup efforts.

Re: Bubas Cup 10 May 2015
This has certainly been a step up in some sports - for example track and field. Out of curiosity, I compared some results from the So Con outdoor championship with the Sunbelt. Appalachian would have scored a LOT more points (double or more?) if we had achieved the same marks in the So Con championship this year. For example, MyQuon Stout, who got 6th in the discus in the Sunbelt, would have won the So Con this year with the same mark.
I agree that in some sports it may not be so much performing worse than usual, but rather performing at the same level with stronger competition.

Someone at csn noted that we and one other school were the only two schools without a SB championship this year. That was kind of a bummer to read.
