Way to go, Idaho (back to FCS)

Not sure how pertinent it is, but the Idaho Vandals made it official that they're returning to the FCS and getting full membership to the Big Sky Conference.

Aren't they the first FBS football program to move down to FCS? One is not bad at all.

There was a vote of the Faculty Senate at UMass yesterday to recommend either dropping back to FCS or dropping football altogether. It is non-binding, of course, but it is a sign of things to come. I haven't heard the result.

I heard JMU made a similar decision.

I'm afraid there are a lot of Faculty Senates that would make that choice.

I believe so. Looking over on their fan message board they aren't too happy about it. But I think in the long term as a program they'll probably thrive in the Big Sky. The next couple of years will probably be bad for them but lets be honest, it's not like they're going to be getting a look from the Pac 12 or Mountain West anytime soon (especially with the Washington State literally the next town over), and they aren't that big of a name to make something out of an independent run.

They probably aren't the last. There are a few other teams out there who haven't really produced once they've moved up to FBS.

UMass completely botched their move up. I'm still wondering who had the bright idea of building up their fan base and program by playing their games two hours away in Boston at a stadium which holds 50,000 more people than what they typically bring to a football game.
