First and foremost, I am not posting this to gloat or anything. I know, without a doubt, that glass houses should keep us all humble and cautious. However, I was looking over at GS Message Board (Flight Line) a little while ago and saw this thread.

really strange that no one had a heads up this happening, never seen that before, hopefully its a minor infraction that the administration didn't feel necessary to make a big deal about and put out any press. As far as GS, I absolutely hate everything about them, but, I don't wish them, or any of the SBC teams getting in trouble with the NCAA, after all, could be us next.

Could this be why Fritz left in such a hurry?

Most teams that we would be considered rivals with, I would agree with you; however, when Georgia Southern students started to make fun of Appalachian after our string of deaths last year, that's when I lost all respect and hope they get what they deserve.

Hey GS. Just do like UNC, don't self report and spend millions on PR Firms to defend/deflect and millions on attorneys to negotiate with the NCAA.... Simple....

I lost what very little respect I had for them in 2007 when they knew along with everyone else that Armanti was injured (his knee I think, can't remember). What did they do on EVERY play?? Went after his knees time and time and time again. That is dirty pool, totally unsportsmanlike and proves why they are a poor man's georgia state. I wouldn't spit or pee on any of their fans if they were on fire a bunch of lowlife trash. I hope the hammer is dropped on them and their punishment makes SMU's death sentence look like a slap on the wrist.

When Baylor and Ole Miss suddenly went from just okay programs to top 10ish seemingly overnight it didn't pass the smell test and what do you know? Problems galore at both programs. Not comparing GSU and they had a considerable amount of success at the FCS level but when they all of a sudden were ultra competitive immediately at the FBS level and were landing 3 star recruits I shook my head. Who in the hell wants to go to that armpit and play ball? Are they legitimately landing top recruits and are those "student athletes" making it in the classroom? All of this is prefaced with a really big "hmmm". Guess we will see.

Those are de minimus violations compared to what happened for decades in Chapel Hill. Somehow these sanctions came swiftly. Much harsher too.

UNC=Hillary Clinton; GS=General Petraeus

"vacation of records when the student athletes participated while ineligible"

Does this mean that their SB Championship and bowl win are gone?

The Stink fans on the Sun Belt board are frantic!!!! They are wondering if they have to vacate their football championship and bowl win. Also the LaLa people are wondering if they will have to vacate the 2014 SB title to US once their investigation is over..

AE back on the field tomorrow night in Saskatchewan, and Georgia Southern in deep do do....What a great day to be A Mountaineer!!!

(Playing Yikes in my office right now!!!)

This is why I am not shedding any tears over Gibbs being ruled ineligible. I'd rather our program be without a standout player than without integrity.

Southern's sanctions aren't harsh at all. Other than possibly vacating the conference title and/or bowl win, they're barely a slap on the wrist. No postseason ban, a total of two scholarships lost, nominal recruiting restrictions, a fine they could pay out of their couch cushions. And unlike UNC, Southern actually had direct involvement by athletic department personnel, both in the cheating and in the cover-up.

Southern got off very light.

When a school vacates a title, they don't vacate it TO someone else. It's just that - vacant. We'll have to earn that first SB title this year.

To be fair, Southern is not accused of any recruiting violations as far as I can tell. I don't think Baylor was either, though I certainly wouldn't be shocked. Now Ole Miss...

I know it sounds as if they are getting off light , but they are still going to be on probation technically for the next 2 years. That alone may provide some extra worries for parents of potential ballers who are going to be playing for a program on "probation". Or, do people no longer care about things like that ?
