Best win(s): South Alabama and Texas State.
Worst loss: Arkansas State. They so desperately want to be the alpha dog and always fall flat on their faces in these games.

Georgia State's loss was pretty bad too. ULL was a 20 point dog, no big surprise in that result.

Toledo and Boise may turn out to be world beaters...UT, Miss State, and Ohio dogs. Hard to judge a season on one game.
That said I like what I saw from us, especially on defense. USA and Tx State had quality QB performances.

Re: Week 1 standings/ next week's games
Somebody posted before our game that the 40's ranking we had was a little lofty, turns out many of us think it is now a little low. What a difference a week makes.

Yes - at the minimum, I can't imagine whatever coach(es) voted for us before would drop us now. I actually think we might gain a little ground in both polls.B30020 wrote:Think we'll still get any "other votes" in this weeks coaches poll?

Re: Week 1 standings/ next week's games
Just as an example of the differences in the preseason polls CBS had Miss St at 71 and they were 36 in the Coaches. USA was 112 in CBS poll and not ranked in Coaches. And we know we were 50 on CBS and 43 in the Coaches. Point being, for an SEC team, CBS especially didn't think they were going to be very good but it's still a big win for USA regardless. Still a win over an SEC team.

Mississippi State lost a lot including Dak Prescott. Dak wasn't the best QB of all time, but he was a large part of their offense. Are they as good as years past? I don't think so. Still a huge win for South Alabama? Yes.

Yeah I don't think anyone knows how good they'll be until we see how they replace Prescott. He might have been *their* best QB of all time, and he's starting week 1 for the Cowboys as a rookie. Unless you're an elite program, you don't just replace a guy like that without missing a beat.

The talking heads on Sirius/XM were predicting a two win season for Mississippi St. One of those was USA, though.bigdaddyg wrote:How big was the SA win? Mississippi St typically pretty decent

Re: Week 1 standings/ next week's games
I picked UL-L's loss as the worst simply because of "how much they've improved" per the offseason pundits, but yeah, ASU took one AGAIN from Toledo. BTW, ODU won 54-21 yesterday over Hampton. Ready for Saturday!
