Streaming espn 3

Unread post by teaasu76 » Mon Feb 13, 2017 6:34 pm

I recently purchased a smart tv and am trying to stream espn 3 for the App bball game. TV is connected to wifi but will not stream video that requires a flash plug-in. How can I get the signal from a desk top computer to the TV? Computer is on the same wifi connection.

I hate to suggest you go make another purchase, but a Google Cast, or Amazon Fire Stick, or some such device that connects your PC to your TV will do the trick. You play ESPN3 through your browser and "cast" it to your TV. I have a couple of Google Casts and they are cheap and really work well.

Google Chromecast is a very inexpensive way to stream. I've used it to watch our games on ESPN3 for several years now with no issues. You can get a Gen 2 for $30.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

I have a couple of 1st gen Chromecast dongles (yes, that's what they are actually called) that still work great. One thing you mentioned though that makes me concerned about your compatibility is being on two different wifi networks. I am pretty sure you have to be on the same wifi network for the TV and casting device for Chromecast to work.

My preferred way to stream these days is to a small tablet. That way I can be doing things throughout the house/local network and have the game with me where I go. You you can purchase a small 7-8 inch tablet for only slightly more than a Chromecast. Don't worry about screen size, think portability and easy to hold in one hand while holding a beer in the other. Happy streaming!

I often watch things on my computer hooked up to the TV with an HDMI cable. It's actually pretty easy. And if you have an Apple computer, which does not have an HDMI port, there is an adapter you can get.

As a side note, I got rid of DirecTV for Playstation Vue. 29.99 a month and no longer requires you to own a playstation, there's a roku app. Also, watchespn (espn3) works with it as Playstation Vue is considered a provider. Works great for us (modest 60mbps conneciton).

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going with a Roku stick. Seemed like the most straight forward way to go. It is working fine so far.

We watch ESPN3 through our Roku. All you basically have to do is download the app and then verify your internet provider. Works really good. A Roku 3 will probably run you about $99 but you can probably find a Roku 1 or Roku 2 for cheaper.

Just NHRA races. Maybe some Indy, but everything I've seen is drag racing.

Apple TV! It's easy, has tons of free content as well as access to everything I subscribe to. It syncs with my phone, iPad and computers.
