If the 17,000 that weren't fairly represented don't like it, all they have to do is vote the bums out and change the ordinance...
I heard that ordinance only changed recently after a certian mountain man moved in.

Not to my knowledge. And I haven't heard if this group sought further appeal.

It would be a shame to just roll over on one of the most unreasonable ordinances in the town's history.
Must not be a problem for anyone else.
Or it's a problem for 17,000 people that aren't fairly represented.
Never been a fan of college students having much say in a town's affairs. Yes they put a lot of money into the economy but are only around for a short time then town has to live with it after they are gone. Plus, nobody forced them go to school there to begin with.

Hahaha. Nope, can't take credit for that. But it seems that our ordinance is more restrictive than the Boone ordinance.

Students may be transients, but their interests represent that of a revolving door of people that make up over half the town's population. Their opinion and interests are just as valid as a long-time local.

...and what would you say to the seven families who live down behind the ASU Baseball stadium who were here YEARS before that was built? Games have been known to go on until after 10 PM. There is no escaping the noise of the PA or the glaring lights.

Or the hundreds of people every year that suddenly have highway-front property...

Development happens. This is not some sort of phenomenon unique to mean ol' App State.

That is one of the most narrow minded POV I have ever read on this board. Nevermind the ordinance! There is a constant rotation of about 17000 humans, people, people being like minded and they do not count?, except that they spend their money in Boone. No wonder.....

Im a current student as well but I don't want to be involved in the towns politics. I went home and voted early instead of registering here so I have no room to complain about anything here. Yeah the noise ordinance sucks but I have yet to see enforcement hamper any normal nighttime activities and I doubt it will. Why should I have a say in the way taxes are paid when I don't pay property taxes here. Why should any asu student who lives in a dorm be able to vote school board members into office. Yeah the school brings a lot to the town and the town make App awesome. I really love going out on king street and how it is a the mix of locals and students but this is their town they they grew up in and we only visit for short time.

Thats just the way I look at it. Wilmington will always be home to me and I would be pissed if UNCW students who have no knowledge of what is good or bad for the overall city began to vote and affect issues.

So you're saying because of the noise you're moving? Or is it the cultural shift?

Not meaning to pry, I'm just really perplexed by the possibility of someone picking up and moving because Char plays club bangers until 2 am.

I'm sure all 17,000 share the same opinion. It is absurd and arrogant to think the interests of someone who is a part time resident of a town for 4 or 5 years are just as valid as someone who is a permanent resident, makes their living there and PAYS TAXES to support that community.

Whoever sets the volume at Smith Stadium must think the students on campus need to to be able to hear the game. Many things at App are done very professionally but others portray the image of high school.

So college kids shouldn't have their voices listened to because they only live here 9 months out of the year and only stay 4-5 years, so that same argument would say that since college kids only live at home 3 months out of the year for 4-5 years then they shouldn't be listened to their either. Okay so college students do not get a say, even though they are paying taxes and provide cheap labor, that is what i am getting here.

Commercial establishments that play music must limit the level of
unreasonable or disturbing noise that escapes into the streets or is
heard in nearby residences by requiring that sounds levels may not
exceed:

42 decibels as measured from inside nearby residences,
AND

7 decibels over the ambient sound level, as measured on
a street or public right-of-way 15 feet or more from the
source, between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am
k
Sometimes residents are disturbed by pervasive bass sounds that
resonate and can be felt physically by a person.

Bass sounds measurements are weighted in the “C” scale
and may not exceed 6 dB(C) above the ambient sound if
the ambient sound is greater than 62 dB(C).

That is the NYC sound ordinance for bars that have live bands. Looks like 70 DBs is pretty generous.

Here is the whole things.... http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/pdf/noise_code_guide.pdf

Man I so agree with you but with democracy we take the good with the bad. The students hold huge sway on matters that have huge implications for property owners and full time residents.
