June 28: Board of Trustees To Meet at Plemmons SU

Unread post by asu66 » Sat Jun 22, 2013 1:29 pm

ASU BOT will meet next Thursday and Friday, June 27-28 at the Plemmons Student Union. Here's the link to the online agenda and materials...

http://chancellor.appstate.edu/board-trustees

Agenda includes process/timeline for Chancellor's Search Committee and seasonal admin items...updates to faculty handbook, on-campus parking regulations, facilities contracts, construction updates and athletic contract extensions. Anything having to do with HR, finance and contracts will include closed sessions as permitted under the NC General Statutes.

Lament: Oh, for the days of the Broyhill Conference Center and Ballroom! Life just isn't fair!

Does the BoT take care of emeriti appointments once a year or at every/any one of these meetings?

The BOT's by-laws assign that responsibility to the Chancellor and the Academic Affairs Committee. There's no mention of when their recommendations are to go before the board for consideration and approval. Now that you mention it, I don't recall any emeritus/emerita honors being awarded in the last couple of years.

There has been plenty of opportunity for it, because all BOT committees meet at least four times every academic year. This, BTW, is the same committee that considers coaching contract/salary recommendations of the AD.

The reason I asked is that Dr. Mamola retired at the end of the academic year. He was the Physics and Astronomy Dept chair for many years, and though he stopped teaching a few years ago, he was able to land the very prestigious assignment as editor of the Physics Teacher. I am sure he will be granted the honor of emeritus at some point and as soon as possible I would think. That is what I was digging around for specifically. I looked into the Academic Affairs committee appendix and did not see anything, but the appendix really said very little as it were.
