App Sports Network

Unread post by Bigdaddyg1 » Thu Apr 24, 2025 7:12 am

This is probably a far fetched question but is there any feasibility for the creation of a subscription based App Sports Network? I realize that we already have some games on ESPN plus (do we make any money from that?) Would the Sunbelt prohibit a school network? Would App fans even pay for the opportunity to see volleyball games or wrestling matches?

I imagine that would create a conflict with ESPN+.

I would probably buy a low level sub for non football sports.

Tennis, volleyball, socc3r, field hockey, etc. I dont even need announcers, just slap one of those nice rotating cameras up on a pole at each field.

That was sort of my thought. Maybe enhance the school program that handles camera and broadcasting stuff (better than the ESPN plus). I’m sure a good number of App people would pay to see some of those sports.

The ESPN+ production is handled by the same folks and resources as an in house platform would.

And they already broadcast part of the schedules for those teams, with the exception of maybe Tennis. Don't recall ever seeing one of our tennis matches on the Plus

I imagine that one would be extremely difficult to broadcast with multiple matches going on at once.

We’ve got it good with ESPN+. I don’t know why some people can’t see this. Could the production be better? Yep. But that’s our issue, not ESPN+.

The idea is good but there would have to be some ROI to support this. They don't call some of them revenue sports for nothing. The good thing mentioned above is that we may already have much of the infrastructure in place and it may merely be getting some folks (probably students to contain cost) to setup the events and stream. However that is still a cost that would have to be covered with likely little to any new revenue derived from such events.
