RIP Fred Robinette

Unread post by AppinVA » Sat Jan 25, 2014 3:20 pm

Just saw this on Facebook
We are saddened by the news of the passing earlier this morning of Mr. Fred T. Robinette '66 '67 '70.

Fred spent 30 years on staff at Appalachian, serving in various roles including Director of Alumni Affairs and Director of Development. Fred was also the founder of the Appalachian Student Ambassador program in 1977.

The Appalachian Family has lost a true gentleman, a man of compassion and remarkable spirit, and a fiercely loyal Mountaineer.

We will be forever grateful for his continued support and guidance over the years, even beyond his career at Appalachian.

Our thoughts are with his wife Priscilla and family.

With Appalachian love, respect, and gratitude,

The staff of the Office of Alumni Affairs & Annual Giving
"Some people call me hillbilly. Some people call me mountain man. You can call me Appalachian. Appalachian's what I am."-- Del McCoury Band

This is the saddest I've felt as a Mountaineer in a long time. Anyone that had an opportunity to meet Fred was truly blessed.

No one believed in App State more than Fred and his service will never be forgotten. Might need to step up my donation to the Robinette scholarship. My prayers are with his wife.

This is sobering, sobering news. Both Fred and I (and our wives to be) were members of the Appalachian freshman class of '62. We went through undergraduate and graduate school at the same time. He was a prince of a fellow and top-drawer, dyed-in-the-wool-Mountaineer.

Fred was diagnosed with advanced stage pancreatic cancer last year; and he put up a magnificent fight. It's a blessing that he was able to make it to KBS for the 2013 football season.

Godspeed to Prissy and the children.

RIP, Fred.

I've known Fred since I can remember and he knew me from when I was born. He and dad we great friends and so were mom and Prissy. I can't count the number of times we went everywhere with them. I used to joke with dad and Fred both that they were leaving Boone under my control when they would go to Firefox twice a year with the group. Even during all his struggles he took the time recently to call and check on my sister and myself. I'm sure he's with mom and dad right now. Another Great Mountaineer is looking down from Heaven today and I'm sure he's making sure there is some Black with all the Gold up there. God Bless Prissy and the entire family.

I wasn't really close to Fred but I remember him from my time at ASU. He was in grad school while I was an undergrad. He was always upbeat and such a big supporter of the Apps. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Fred was a great fundraiser and always called me by my first name. Truly sad news. When we hear "I give my all for Appalachian..." that was Fred.
