App State Outreach

Unread post by McLeansvilleAppFan » Sat Aug 23, 2014 11:27 am

I wanted to mention some personal good news that has a connection that is fairly direct to App State.

The state Physics teachers met in Boone this past spring. The Physics and Astronomy Dept of course showed off their Astronomy facilities both on campus at Rankin and at Dark Sky at the end of the day.

Though solar observing was not planned, one of the newer faculty members in the department set up one of their very nice solar telescopes essentially just for me. I had just enough telescope envy to write a grant so my high school could have access to a scope such as this.

One person on this message board may very well remember a sign that was made for my first solar telescope a few years ago. The newer scope should put that scope to shame, though the first scope is a nice scope and I am glad to have it as well.

The App faculty member also helped a bit with the grant in proofing for grammar and making some suggestions in other ways.

This person certainly did not have to do any of this, but helped in a few ways at different times in the process. Just another example of App State being a great school and helping the broader community.

If you live in the Triad area and are interested in observing through the solar telescope then send me a PM. It will be a few weeks before I get the scope in, and I need to order it first, but I do want to have something big on campus and invite media. It would be nice to have a small crowd from the community.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.
