Yogi's made the very best subs in The High Country during it's run in the 70's and early 80's. Yogi made the subs himself so he could be assured of quality control. You'd be interested in knowing that "Yogi" in real life was/is none other than former All Southern Conference App Offensive Lineman Tommy Sofield...a true entrepreneur...President and CEO of US Steel Buildings of Boone and owner of a dozen or more businesses in Watauga and Wilkes County and his brand is spreading across NC and into East Tenn. Tommy was "the brain" behind, and the major donor to, the Indoor Practice Facility in KBS.AppYosef! wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 3:06 pmI'm glad someone remembered the nick-name for those cheap hotdogs.Apple@chin1 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 2:00 pmThe 3 hotdogs for $.99 (Danger Dogs as we referred to them) was at the Scotchman convenience store. Anyone remember the little (and I DO mean little) sandwich shop on King St. in the 80's called "Yogi's"? They had some of the best sandwiches. Hated when they closed.
Here is a photo I found on Digital Watauga showing "Yogi's" in the background from 1973.

Tommy opened Yogi's while he was an undergrad student and athlete at App. He had the intellect and energy to juggle a lot of things at once. Still does.

I think you’re right, it was the Best Cellar. Anyone remember Chuck’s Hawaiian Steak House? I went to the original when I was living in Hawaii in the late 90’s.

Holy crap! I never knew about Sofield. We would randomly alternate between Yogi’s and Soeedy’s Pizza. Good ole days.asu66 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 4:18 pmYogi's made the very best subs in The High Country during it's run in the 70's and early 80's. The Best Cellar had the best steak I’ve ever put in my mouth. And I eat a lot of steak.

It’s now on Sunset (the road that the bypass to the Main Street), but I’m not sure of the quality, anymore. Haven’t been in years — and not since the move.

To avoid the cops coming out of Blowing Rock, we crossed 221 right above Antlers and took the dirt road through the trees by the lake that brought you out on Winkler’s Creek Road on the backside of Boone. Sneak back to campus through there. Bad weather and you were screwed because parts of that road were tough to negotiate.

I had a jeep my senior year and loved to day that road. Used to tell the girls when we passed the old lumber mill looking place was haunted.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 5:01 pmTo avoid the cops coming out of Blowing Rock, we crossed 221 right above Antlers and took the dirt road through the trees by the lake that brought you out on Winkler’s Creek Road on the backside of Boone.
