This is the way you gracefully exit. hes set a standard and I hope he's part of the process to find his replacement. All I can say is "thank you Ken" .If anyone gave

Re: Peacock stepping down
I will remember his tenure as the time our school went from being the best safety school in the state to being one on the top of the list of many high school seniors. Simply put, he made it cool to be from Appalachian State.

Feels like a punch to the gut. A true man of integrity and amazing advocate for the university. What a wonderful nine years. Well done, sir.

Re: Peacock stepping down
I don't have words right now. I've known Ken since he arrived here. He and my dad played golf many times and he has been very thoughtful since dad passed away. I always knew I had a place to watch a football game if I happened to be home all the years I was away. We all know what he has done for the university. My feelings right now are more personal. It's been a great 30 years and I look forward to many more. Enjoy your retirement. Thank You!!!
Re: Peacock stepping down
Peacock was the greatest Chancellor App has ever had, the man truly loved App and refused to "bow down" to UNC Chapell Hill, he really believed App was the greatest University in North Carolina. The greatest compliment I can give him, was this quick story; I have a friend who graduated from Chapel Hill, big, big fan, anyway, he was at an App game, the first year of Peacock, and sat there watching Peacock firing up the crowd, shaking hands, and having a great time. My friend turn to me, said that was one of the coolest things he had ever seen a Chancellor do, and he wished the Chancellor at UNC interacted with the fans like Peacock does. Whoever the next chancellor is, he is going to have a hard time living up to the standards Peacock set.
Re: Peacock stepping down
Close family friends of ours daughter was a music major. Her choral group had a concert and Chancellor Peacock and his wife attended. Later our friends were at dinner and the Chancellor and friends were at the same restaurant. KP gets up from his table comes over introduces himself and congratulates our friend on her performance. Sits down with them and talked for 15 minutes. When our friends got home Sunday afternoon they called to say how much they loved ASU but were completely blown away by Chancellor Peacock. That was at least 6 years ago and they still talk about it. The few times I spoke with him you would have thought we were neighbors.

Re: Peacock stepping down
Wow. This really kicks me in the gut. My senior year was Dr. Peacock's first year as an accounting professor. He managed to make even tax lectures downright entertaining. I never had him for a class, but I did have him in the CPA review class and knew him well through Beta Alpha Psi. He was responsible for bringing Price Waterhouse onto campus for interviews that year...the first time they had interviewed at App. I was hired in that round of interviews, so he has had a very direct impact on my life as this launched my career.
Thank you to Ken Peacock for all that you have given to Appalachian State. Take well and God be with you!

Bittersweet news. Horrible for us, but congrats to Dr. Peacock. He made a difference. What more can you ask from a career.

Not really. He's accomplished a tremendous amount, his health has been iffy the last few years, he wants to be able to enjoy his family, and the state budget mess continues to wreak havoc on state schools. It makes perfect sense to me.bcoach wrote:Is nobody else scratching their head on this one?
Re: Peacock stepping down
As a staff member of ASU I really appreciate what Dr. Peacock has done working with these huge budget cuts. At a time when he could've ordered massive layoffs he went above and beyond to protect every staff position he possibly could. He even spoke publicly about staff families and how it was his responsibility to save jobs.
I started here under Thomas, survived Bork and am really saddened to see Dr. Peacock go. He has been outstanding.
Godspeed Ken Peacock.

He has been great, that's for sure. But to say he has been the best is not fair to some of the ones in the past who are partly responsinle for where we are today.

Re: Peacock stepping down
Bad News.
Dr. Peacock is a 'Class Act' and will be stepping down after doing a fantastic job for App State. He definitely is leaving the school in better shape than when he took over. The next chancellor is set up for success in my opinion, but will need an extraordinary personality to match what we are accustomed to now in a chancellor. I hope Dr Peacock will be at the spring game Saturday so I can shake his hand again and wish him well.

Give Em Hell!!

Re: Peacock stepping down
Was shocked and saddened to hear this news. He has done so much for me personally as I had him as a professor. His door ways always open for advice, guidance or just shooting the breeze. His passion for the students, faculty and university was tireless and constant. He truly gave it his all and always dreamed big for ASU. Since graduating in '86' he's never failed to write a handwritten note anytime I had a promotion, job change, life event- getting married, children, etc. Unbelievable head and heart for ASU and the determination to ensure ASU was represented and heard in Raleigh and with the BOG.
Also, a HUGE THANKS for Rosanne Peacock for her support, efforts and sacrifices over the years. She gave a lot of her time to ASU, gave up time with Ken and family to giver her all for ASU.
So blessed to have known them over the years and wish them the very best in their next season of life!!

Re: Peacock stepping down
One happening I really remember - Michigan Game. There were about 4000+ App fans. Dr Peacock spent a good part of the game going up and down the rows of App fans, hugging the ladies and shaking the hand of the gents thanking them for making the trip and supporting App State, all before any idea what the outcome of the game would be. A mover and shaker with a vision who truly understood the power of people!!! Thanks Dr Peacock!

Re: Peacock stepping down
Sad day for App. Peacock has set the standard by which I will measure all future chancellors. I'll sure miss him. I had complete and unquestioned faith in that man's ability to lead App. Its hard to imagine being able to find another man like that.

Re: Peacock stepping down
It is always easy to think the best of the latest. Most top ten lists have that problem. So my question, if not Peacock, whom would get your vote for as the best?JCline0429 wrote:moehler wrote:Peacock was the greatest Chancellor App has ever had, the man truly loved App and refused to "bow down" to UNC Chapell Hill, he really believed App was the greatest University in North Carolina.
