I'll just park this right here...during a concert at WCU a few years ago, the week after he played HCC. He saw the towel and started smiling and laughing when I was still 20 people away. Told me to wave it high and be loud so the catamounts could hear me all night.

He might not be the biggest supporter, and may be a fan of other programs, but time (and money) comes into App.

Now that I know he's sponsored by Busch light my fandom is locked in.

I'll also add to the prior posts that speak to his fondness and love of App, his son's 1st name is Boone.

I'm glad you cleared that up for the haters on here. As someone said earlier, he has a suite at Kidd Brewer and he even NAMED HIS SON Boone. He is a diehard fan. How do I know, his sister, Kendra, and her husband, Brad, used to tailgate with us in Duncan before they moved to Nashville, Tn. ASUSPARTAN can verify that.

Alum or not, Eric Church reading someone else's line is still just a guy who (honestly I had no idea who he was because I despise country music) is reading SOMEONE ELSE'S LINE.

I think we need to cease being such a sensitive fan base. It is clear from those who know him that he is a loyal Mountaineer.

It's a family name. He didn't name his kid for his alma mater.

We just have different definitions of loyalty and what makes a "hardcore" fan I suppose. Doesn't he usually show up to one home game a year?

The thing that gets me is that if all these fans with split loyalties would be better ambassadors and supporters of App State we would be a force to be reckoned with and probably be much more competitive with these "real" teams. When we have role models like EC tho who make it clear that App is a secondary rooting interest, it's little wonder why the atmosphere will probably be lackluster tonight.

I don't think making it to one game a year is unreasonable when you are a popular country music star who tours, writes and records albums and had 2 small children and a wife whom you would like to spend with.
I don't think Eric Church being a more vocal supporter is going to convince people to take unpaid leave from their job because they are out of vacation time so they can come for the second Thursday game in 3 weeks time.

There's a feeling, even among some in the Athletics Office, that he did something nice for App State (the 2013 Welcome To The Rock intro). Then the "ungrateful fans" rejected it, so we should be lucky he supports App after that.

We're fans and customers. If so many people hated the video so much, then that's just too bad. I sure liked some of the ideas I pitched to my bosses and tried to get on the market, but they didn't work for whatever reason. That's life.

My rant isn't directed so much at Eric, but at those who whitewash everything he does just because he's an App grad.
Yet people have pointed out what he DOES do for App and some still try and paint him as someone that doesn't support App. That just isn't true.

He's done more for App than anyone on this thread.

This is Tar Heel misdirected hate. I pointed out that he is not the only one who has a "real" team they support. That will always exist. One of the things that have bugged me in the past is how Luke Bryan does concerts that benefit Stink scholarship funds. I guess Eric is just not as public about his support of App.

You are correct 89', For the most part his entire family has been a supporter of App over the years, coming to games of all sports. Eric is as good of a supporter of Appalachian as anyone has been, especially given his schedule and the fact he is still young at only 38 years old and trying to juggle success and and a young family, while being on the road 75% of the year. I have never understood the hate for UNC on this board, Like I said earlier, his love of UNC came from his love of basketball as a child just like mine and alot of others on this board. Most every kid in this state that loves basketball will love either UNC, Duke or State, with the remaining few liking other schools, including App. It is just the way it is.

Some of the folks around here know nothing about schmoozing. If Eric is playing the Dean Dome and looking to sell tickets to students he is a wise man to talk about growing up a fan of tarheel basketball. If he is playing in Oxford he might be wise to have a publicity shot or show up wearing an Ole Miss shirt. Now, if he shows up in huntington wearing marshall garb, or statesboro wearing stink stuff...that's when he has taken it too far.
