If they don't want him to leave, then they should do WHATEVER it takes. End of discussion.

DJ - Don't leave. We all appreciate and apologize for whatever crap red coat put you through. Gillin - you need to work this out, pronto!

Re: DJ's Status?
I like DJ but he needs to do what's best for him and his family. APP football will go on without him, and that's no disrespect to DJ.

Re: DJ's Status?
The Panthers aren't going to do whatever it takes to keep Josh Norman either and I expect Appalachian to treat David's situation similarly. I'm surprised we've kept DJ this long and financially...if that is the issue...he is going to have to make a decision to go elsewhere or settle. I want to keep him but if a pro team or if a P5 comes calling..........

Re: DJ's Status?
I'd say the fact that App is still trying to get him to come back after he basically decided to walk away from his job in the middle of basketball season and not come back says a lot about how valued he is. DJ is terrific but that's not something you typically do if you want to keep your job.

Re: DJ's Status?
Why is it even mentioned on here that he might go elsewhere? It serves no positive purpose. If we want to let Gilliam know how much we appreciate David and his Dad, and that David should be compensated fairly and his work load lessened, we should do that and that only. It's just my opinion and not criticizing anyone else in any way, shape, nor form.

Re: DJ's Status?
I'd hate to see David leave, if that is in fact the case. He adds so much to the game day experience, the most talented broadcaster I've ever listened to. The way he gets into the game, if you're listening over the air waves, you can imaging being at the game(s) in person.
The Josh Jefferies interception call is a prime example. "He's going to go, he's going to go all the way touchdown....."

Re: DJ's Status?
What you posted here is just part of the issue. Don't assume that DJ is the only staffer who's salary is inequitably low. As I understand it, there are several, long-time, faithful Mountaineer staffers who are also past due for an adjustment to get them into Sun Belt class salary ranges. There is, unfortunately, not enough available funding to do them all at once as perhaps it should be done. If/when you start picking and choosing those who get an adjustment and those who have to keep waiting, then you're back to the Cobb doctrine that essentially created this situation.sixtoes9134 wrote:If they don't want him to leave, then they should do WHATEVER it takes. Perhaps DGillin can bring things more within reason when he reorganizes the staff to fit his operational preferences. At that time, he may be able to make adjustments in responsibilities and tweak salaries to match.

Didn't everyone demolish Eastern?McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:He mentioned a time or two on both the old board and this board how his Rams would generally demolish my Wildcats while I was at Eastern. In fact when I announced my school move last summer I had a PM from him and part of the comment was the NE-Eastern baseball.WVAPPeer wrote:"The point about baseball is, I think spot on. Yeah, he was a NE Guilford Ram and as I have told him personally, they never could handle the Western Alamance Warriors !!!
Take care David!!! - You are a special man!!! ---
One, he reads this board at least some, and two he is still sticking it to me on Eastern athletics.

Re: DJ's Status?
Eastern has had some good, even great teams, ever so often. Baseball is generally good. Wrestling has been great at times. I'll leave it at that. Northeast has fallen a bit more than Eastern has in some sports, but both schools have changed demographics since the mid 1990s when DJ was at NE Guilford.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote:Didn't everyone demolish Eastern?McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:He mentioned a time or two on both the old board and this board how his Rams would generally demolish my Wildcats while I was at Eastern. Re: DJ's Status?
I think EG has gotten better over the last decade or so and Northeast has really dropped - Western Alamance, Northern Guilford and Eastern Alamance have pretty much ruled the conference - especially Eastern Alamance over the last couple of years ---

I understand that and agree but if we don't have the money to keep DJ we are in a very sad state. Now it may not be money but if it is....Rekdiver wrote:Unfortunately we have to [pick our spots to apply salary dollars....Coaches first, staffers second..........

Re: DJ's Status?
Trying not to move this topic off the main area of DJ, but the last I saw had Eastern Guilford moving to the 6 school conf. of Southern Guilford and Asheboro and whatever else is down in that direction. I think a 9 school conf they are in is a bit large, when a 6 school conference is right beside them That might help Eastern G.WVAPPeer wrote:I think EG has gotten better over the last decade or so and Northeast has really dropped - Western Alamance, Northern Guilford and Eastern Alamance have pretty much ruled the conference - especially Eastern Alamance over the last couple of years ---
