Live about 20 minutes from there. Definitely a high school in the area. Kind of surprised given the very progressive nature of the area.jlm11 wrote:For what it's worth, the woman who originally posed the video, pointed out in her post the man in "the Avon shirt." I'm assuming a high school in that area.

My wife used to breastfeed in public all the time 20 years ago. She would just throw a sweater or jacket over the babe's head and mind her own business. Seriously we have gone backwards especially in NC in the last few years. I am so sick of the redneck ignorance.

Pretty sure the tune is an old German drinking song.

How does this guy in Conn. have anything to do with NC.? Redneck ignorance should be the least of our concerns have you heard about who is running for president? And worse than that it is ignorant Americans who have put them in place. My wife breastfed also I don't recall ever in public.appbio91 wrote:My wife used to breastfeed in public all the time 20 years ago. Avon School for Boys is a private prep school in Avon CT. Very exclusive and $$$+. I seriously doubt this person is an alumnus.

I would be VERY surprised if ANYONE except us even noticed the shirt. Me thinks we are getting a little full of ourselves.

1.2. Historical Background
The Song is about mountain climbing. It describs the feelings of the hikers. The love climbing, beeing near to the sun, the beauty of the mountain.
The last verse tells that girls are watching them when they are back home. But the climbers are afraid of them. because they could lose their heard to the girls.
The Song was written after a mountain hike in 1945 in the ALLGÄU (Germany, Austria). Words by Rudolf Hartinger and Melody by Hans Kolesa und Hans Gasser.
After 1956 it appeared in many song books.
1.3. Translation into English
1. When we hike up to the top, we climb up to the mountain peak
In our hearts there is a desire, which leaves us never in peace
Wonderful mountains, sunny mountains, mountain vagabonds are, yes, we Wonderful mountains, sunny mountains, mountain vagabonds are, yes, we
2. With rope and hook, we adventure everything, we hand in the steep wall Hearts burn, the edelweiss (= flower) flowers, we go on with a straight hand
3. The rock is beaten, we breath freely, this world is so wonderful handshake, a smile, efforts forgotten, everything is perfect
4. With the alpenglow we go home, the mountains are shining red
we come again, because we are brothers, brothers (when we are) alive and dead
5. When we walk through the city, girls are watching us
But you cant trust these girls, because they could steal our hearts the peace

If you have to ask you must not live in NC1ASU78 wrote:How does this guy in Conn. have anything to do with NC.? The house band at EPCOT's German Beirgarten includes it in their set. Even my 8 year old recognized it immediately. She was down on the dance floor when they played it and yelled "Yeah App State" and one of the band smiled and said "that's right". We got quite a chuckle.Apptiger wrote:bergavagabunden- mountain vagabondappst89 wrote:APPARJ wrote:That said, does anyone know the origin of our fight song?
