Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
I was there and noticed when the Chancellor said what she said. Not going to bash her for it, but I will certainly lay it on pretty thick next time I run into her (not that I run into her often).
Just a little derailment here, but Pat Benatar put on a good show.

Growing up in West Virginia it was ALWAYS AppaLATCHan - not just the University, we had AppaLATCHan Power Co, had AppaLATCHan Equipment, and The Bluefield Orioles (Blue Jays) have always played in the professional league known as the AppaLATCHan League.AppGrad78 wrote:Someone posted a variation of this a while back, but it bears repeating:

Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
Well since I started the thread I want to emphasize she DID genuinely seem contrite and did correct herself. Not being from the South with too much time in Illinois I can see it happening. It's certainly not like it was Trumps wife's plaigerized speech. It's worth alerting her it's not acceptable but far from a. Nail in the employment coffin.

Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
I'm glad there's nothing else in the world to be concerned with right now other than the chancellor, as far as has been reported, one time fumbled the pronunciation of our university name. A pronunciation that likely was not in her vocabulary for much of her life. Speaking solely for myself, I find this whole concern way overblown.

I wonder if Biden was the one to sniff that one out? That man knows something about plagiarism.Rekdiver wrote: It's certainly not like it was Trumps wife's plaigerized speech.

She gave it her best shot, but if she's going to find out she doesn't belong if she keeps pronouncing it incorrectly and end up on a battlefield. Fire away!

Got what you ae doing there....clever. Interestingly Melissa Ethridge was effusive in her praise fro Boone and did pronounce Appalachian correctly recognizing that Sherri didnt the first time....Pat Benetar never mentioned anything...not that she had to....not sure she knew what town she was in! The tour schedue is a killer for someone her age.....although she look pretty good for someone who is in her 60'sNattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote:She gave it her best shot, but if she's going to find out she doesn't belong if she keeps pronouncing it incorrectly and end up on a battlefield. Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
I suspect by now that Dr. Everts has had her nose and her $335,000+ annual salary "rubbed in it" more than enough. It was a serious PR blunder for someone of her professional stature to make anywhere--but especially in front of the home-folks and during an on campus functon. Then again, as hapapp mentioned, it's somewhat understandable considering her midwest roots. I seriously doubt she'll make this particular mistake again during her tenure at our Alma Mater.

She should be held to the same standard or higher as those TV sports announcers who mispronounced it and were berated on here endlessly. As you said, I doubt she makes that mistake again. I wonder how she pronounced it when she was being interviewed for the position of Chancellor.

This isn't the first time she's made this mistake. Unfortunately she's made it numerous times over the last two years. Enough is enough.asu66 wrote:I suspect by now that Dr. Everts has had her nose and her $335,000+ annual salary "rubbed in it" more than enough. For all of you who think it's no big deal, try calling your wife a different name for the rest of the week.

I don't doubt her qualifications as I don't know what they are, but couldn't we have found someone with actual ties to Appalachian, e.g. an alumnus, former instructor at ASU, a former administrator at ASU, etc.?Boone Goon wrote:This isn't the first time she's made this mistake. Who is to say we didn't? Recall App selected our top 3 candidates. The UNC Board of Gov's then made the decision on SNE. I understand the 16 campus system and see the benefits of it. However, I am not a fan of this selection process.NewApp wrote:I don't doubt her qualifications as I don't know what they are, but couldn't we have found someone with actual ties to Appalachian, e.g. an alumnus, former instructor at ASU, a former administrator at ASU, etc.?Boone Goon wrote:This isn't the first time she's made this mistake. I am not saying SNE has ties... She doesn't. But perhaps one or both of the other 2 did. We will never know.NewApp wrote:What were her ties to ASU before she was hired?AppDawg wrote:Who is to say we didn't? Recall App selected our top 3 candidates.
