Business going down, cost of running a business in Blowing Rock going up (taxes are really high) and the local competition was tough.

I believe the wording they used was "it was an arithmetic issue".

The founder of Peppers was an App student who dropped out to start the restaurant(s)...quite successfully at that. I say restaurants because he first started down around the 800 block of Blowing Rock Rd.
The day some years ago in the mid or late 90s-the years blur I guess , but my wife and I were in Boone I think during the summer at a workshop. This might have been 1995. Anyway the older place near Makoto's was still open, we thought, and Peppers was in the the current Mountain House Restaurant near the Big Lots was also a second Pepper's. Both were closed as in shuttered. My wife was NOT happy. They had just moved to the current location. What a relief. It was a few tense moments tracking the new location down.

As many App folks live in the Triad, Peppers should open a franchise or their own restaurant in the Triad. I would be willing to drive to W-S from McLville and if placed in Greensboro, I would certainly be a regular.

Woodlands is still a great place to eat and the only good bbq around. When it is fresh it is very good.

Pepper's ain't what it used to be.

Proper is a great restaurant. The salmonella was related to local, organic eggs they used one day and not indicative of poor sanitation or food handling procedures. It is a real, local restaurant.

Just my opinion.

If you like doughnuts you all need to try Local Lion. Located where TCBY used to be beside the Kangaroo gas station. Best doughnuts I've ever had. Nothing like Krispy Kreme or Dunkin'. These are AWESOME! They also just re-did the entrance. Looks nothing like it used to but in the best way possible.

Another new(er) spot that is really good is Basils. Its located in that small shopping center across from the mall (where Frankies used to be, beside Verizon and Which Wich). They make pasta, pizza, and all kinds of sandwiches, none of which I've been disappointed in.

Oh! And one more favorite is Primo's in the mall!

Mellow Mushroom if I have to eat in Boone.

Use to like Frankie's but it's closed down.

Breakfast goes to Troy's Diner.
There's nothing like the smell of passing Woodlands on a crisp, gameday morning. I'm surprised they seem to be moving more toward a barbecue/Mexican combo- I like Mexican, but what's up with that?

As far as breakfast, I'm still mourning the loss of Knights on Main and the "old" Mountain House, but Sunrise isn't too shabby.

Somehow I managed to never eat there. Went to try it a few years ago but left after I saw their B rating. Ewww.

And the food was healthy and good. Strawberry short cake at lunch on Sundays.
