Something doesn't add up. We App fans can be an obnoxious lot when stirred. I get that, but I can't see one of our own wishing what he alleges on another.
I don't know. I'm conflicted. I don't see our folks saying that, but I don't want to believe he's lying, either.

Yep, I agree, but Wake wasn't one of the ones he mentioned. Although not part of his argument, I just think it's silly to not give Wake some love for deciding to come up the mountain before UNC even thought to offer. Triangle wise yes UNC is first.NewApp wrote:Yep, I agree, but Wake wasn't one of the ones he mentioned. I'm not going to call the kid a liar just because I dislike what other guys on his show did. That'd be pretty damn sociopathic.

EVERYONE with breath in their lungs is a liar. But in this situation, it's more believable that a kid getting a ton of flack online made up a story in passing about being harassed on Twitter than a fellow Mountaineer telling him to go die of cancer.APPdiesel wrote:I'm not going to call the kid a liar just because I dislike what other guys on his show did. It's reasonable to want to deflect negative attention and a white lie like this does exactly that.
Frankly, I would prefer that this kid told a white lie to deflect attention than to know someone that wears a block A would say something so nasty - and to another alumnus at that.

Re: SportsWrAPP 90.5 WASU
Listen my take is this: no one should wish death on a fellow app student or make light of suicide. However, the overall conversation here is a little larger than whether that statement about the brother is true. In the same twitter spate one of the kids in the picture ACKNOWLEDGED that he would be wearing baby blue in Kennan and in KBS when we play the Heels ostensibly because he "has been a tarheel since birth." That to me is disgusting in terms of loyalty to your alma mater (or future alma mater). That also seems to be why the majority of the followers/alumni are mad about this. That current students would rather support a university that they didn't go to/get into than their own institution.
I grew up cheering for the Deacs in basketball and I went to Wake for law school, but I would never cheer for the Deacs in a head to head matchup and I don't promote them as my "primary" team. Just not the way things should work.
And as has been beat to death, this certainly shouldn't have come from an official ASU account. The optics are just awful.

Again, while the kid's story about his brother is probably true....having one of us or any App fan saying he should die along with his brother is quiet unbelievable. We need EXTREME VETTING of applicants for this job in the future. If indeed the fella down wear baby blue at the game he should be fired from the station.

Are some of you not familiar with the vitriol on the internet? People say the worst things hiding behind a keyboard. I'm done with this topic because frankly it doesn't affect my life or my mood.
I don't know this kid, so he could've lied. I don't know every Mountaineer fan, so I'm sure they're not all Internet alter boys.

OK....I spoke with the SportsWrapp host that I referenced before....I misunderstood what he told me. This mystery App fan did not suggest he should join his dead brother. He did question him as to why his brother being a UNC fan should matter.
I went back and re-read our conversation and understand why I gleaned that, but it didn't happen.

For me it's really about a poor choice to post that picture from the official Twitter account. No matter about deceased relatives or fan from birth, if you must do something like what these kids did, do it from personal accounts not the official account.
I was born and raised a Duke fan (parents are Iron Dukes and I grew up with tickets to Duke football and ACC Basketball Tournaments). I attended Duke's Fuqua School of Business for graduate school. This past November I took my mom to her first game at Cameron Indoor in over 30 years to see the App State game. I proudly wore my Black and Gold, and cheered loud for the Mountaineers. I cannot imagine ever cheering for Duke over App State.
