Does anyone remember The Cattleman Steak Emporium Late 70's early 80's?
Before my time but that screams $$$$.
It screams they offered something like The 96er.

On the other end, Melanie's moved to Howard Street and is doing very well there. I just went on Sunday and enjoyed it. The owners of Mint are opening a new concept at the former Melanie's. Mellow Mushroom just reopened after renovations.

The Local just opened a sister restaurant called The Social along King Street, kinda next to Horton Hotel. It has speakeasy vibes despite its bland name. Horton also opened a second hotel just a few steps down the road.

A lot of change going on as the ripple effects from Helene and increased costs cause challenges.
Mint is a good spot...

Still the best wings I've ever eaten. Jerk squared.

If I remember correctly they got down to .10 on Monday’s during the summer. Jerk squared was my personal fav as well.

We frequented Sollecito’s Pizza as it was a short walk from Mountaineer Apartments (apartments gone except for our driveway entrance 🤣).

Another common site in locally-owned restaurants up here: menus are shrinking due to rising costs and sourcing issues.

I have to admit, I didn’t complain much about the roads being full this weekend. The businesses up here need visitors.

Ditto on Yogi's It was hard to beat a turkey grinder from there. The best of Boone late 70's ish (IMHO):
Turkey Grinder - Yogi's
Hot dogs - Boone Drug
Buzz City Special - Buzz City
Biscuits - Buck's Biscuits
Chicken Sandwich and Taters - Holly Farms
Special (6oz sirloin, baked potato, AYCE salad bar, tea) $5 - Western Steer
Breakfast - Mountain House
Steak - Chuck's Steak House, Peddler (if Dad was in town)
Jean Lawson - Peppers
Lunch - Pizza Hut buffet
Pizza- Sollecito's and Chanelo's
Versuvian Steak Sub - Chanelo's

When I was a student there was a gas station on BR Rd that sold 3 hot dogs for 99 cents. Wouldn’t pass sanitation codes now but back in the early 80s it was a great deal for a poor college student. No telling what the hell was in those dogs and I really don’t want to know.

Ha! Paraphrased: “I’m so hungry I could eat a hotdog from a gas station”!

The smell was so bad, I could only go in there late at night on my way back from Blowing Rock
