The options for Appalachian State's Master Plan 2025 have been completed and released. The new plan impacts virtually all corners of campus, including the old Broyhill Inn lot, Stadium lot, Legends, Sanford Mall, Raley lot, and Durham Park. I have attached the pictures below.

Pretty ambitious. Looks good though.

Basically, less surface parking and more decks to create more green space. Very ambitious.

Hope we get the Athletics Master Plan soon.

It might just be me, but I don't really like the option that takes away the duck pond field. It is used fornway more then just football tailgating.

Looks like the lower seating areas will be expanded wrap around the hill and track gone.

This looks good. I especially like the hill side. We get the bowled in lower level seating, yet don't lose the benefits of the hill above.

I see one scenario that shows placement of the new track and field in the Broyhill Inn area, cool.

I like everything planned with the exception of losing Duck Pond Field.

These plans are a long way off, but some of this will basically kill tailgating in Peacock and Stadium.

Yeah just not a fan of how much it would kill tailgating in Stadium especially.

As much as I love tailgating, if that is the only downside, I am thrilled with some of these plans.

Fans that put the football game ahead of tailgating won't mind these plans. I'm not sure that percentage is growing based upon the attendance in the 2nd halves of games.

Some of these plans will change the culture of gameday and not is a positive way.

Not sure I understand how this would kill tailgating in Stadium. With the exception of the garage scheme, the other plans--with the flex green space--seem like they'd still allow a great tailgating experience. Reminds me of the new Garnet Way at USC, built on the site of the old state farmer's market.

Tailgating in a parking garage < Tailgating in a parking space with open air

Generally in a parking garage, you cannot use a grill due to the fire hazard. Nobody wants to drag tailgating gear out of a parking garage to set up a picnic in the grass. In a parking garage, there are no tents, no flagpoles, no throwing the football, playing cornhole, etc. Tailgating takes place out of the back of your truck, or SUV, or whatever. That's what makes it so appealing.

We are worried about attendance at games into the third quarter. You take away the tailgating, and we won't have attendance in the first quarter.

My donation level has me in the Rivers Street garage. I get there early enough to get one of the open area spots which makes tailgating much better. Last year for one game, I arrived later and had to park in the dark and gloomy inside of the garage and that sucked. Library deck isn't as bad when it comes to lighting, and the proposed garages would be similar to the Library deck in that aspect. It doesn't change the fact that trying to tailgate in a parking garage is not the greatest of experiences. You can't even throw a football inside of a parking garage, or set up a tent. There's a reason why the open lots are the most popular.

Is the Charrette outcome the proposed plan by combining all schemes? I hope not, if so they didn't address the track.

Rather than focus only on tailgating overall plan is probably warranted.

I like the stadium lot scheme 1 the best, but I'd add the parking deck behind the tower from scheme 2.

I'd like to keep Duck Pond as green space for students and keep stadium lot open air parking. Adding the parking deck behind the tower give our older and "more generous" donors a space to park close to their seats (open up more spaces in stadium lot for tailgaters too).

I do like the idea of expanding Soefield in scheme 3 to a full field.

Scheme 2 for Broyhill is just about perfect.

Peacock lot - seems like an expensive plan that is cosmetic for the most part.

Main gateway - glad to see IG Greer gone and finally a plan for Sanford Mall, that has been going on for 20+ years.

Charettes are usually the first step in designing a master plan. I also don't see how this will negatively impact our gameday culture. More green space is a good thing for tailgating and they wouldn't take away parking spots without adding more via a parking deck. Stadium lot is great on football Saturdays but the rest of the year it's a giant eye sore and bad for permeability. Most of these options are win-win situations.

Scheme 2 for Stadium Lot all day. Leaves some open air parking, while adding 2 parking decks. Only casualty is Duck Pond Field, but some additional green space is added near Newland Hall. Love that all of these include connection to Bodenheimer, giving us an extra access/exit point to/from Stadium Lot.

I definitely get all that. I was more referring to Stadium lot. Unless I'm misreading, only one of the Stadium schemes eliminates surface parking.

I can almost be certain that the revamped parking lot for stadium, if that does not include a parking deck, will severely reduce the number of parking spaces in the actual lot. If Duck Pond field disappears and those who were parking in stadium are relocated to that deck, it will hurt tailgating.
