Tradition is Peddler. Been going there for a long time. And it hasn't changed much in 40 years.

No brainer. The Gamekeeper. Expensive yes but where else can you eat ostrich, emu, bison, elk, antelope, pheasant and my favorite rabbit and rattlesnake sausage?

Hard to choose. Best Cellar, Gamekeeper, Twigs, Bistro Roca. One that we've recently discovered is The Table at Crestwood. Great food with one of the better views in the area.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, Coyote Kitchen has some solid food.

Our Daily Bread. It's so difficult to find a good flatbread sandwich these days but the portobello press there is amazing.

I'm a foodie and I've been cooking since I was tall enough to reach the stove. Probably better pallet than what you developed eating grilled possum in West Virginia.

Just to prove my commitment to good eats, court is cancelled today, so I'm now driving to a third Harris Teeter looking for puff pastry sheets.

Maybe I'll grill some possum meat for the pot pie.

We haven't spent much time in the High Country for about 7-8 years however the one trip this past year I did stop at Woodlands - that is a given for me - Our favorites from the 90s thru about 2011 would be Casa Rustica, Pepper's, Red Onion, Peddler, - anyone remember Stonewalls in Banner Elk? ---

Honorable mentions to my first post and still on traditional lines would be Red Onion in Boone and Canyons (old Holleys Tavern) in Blowing Rock which definitely has best scenic view.
KICK ASS!!!

Portofino's Spiced Sirloin is something I have to have once a year. A new must have as well is the cookies from Appalachian cookie company. Snicker Doodles are so good.
