Re: SportsWrAPP 90.5 WASU
Some of our football players are taking the backlash to mean they can't be Tar Heel fans, which isn't the point.
And SportsWrAPP are favoring their Tweets, because of course they are.

I'm sure Hitler gave candy to kids every once in a while too.
...and the same guy wearing the App hat is the one on the website "Contact US" page wearing a UNC hat. Glad I don't listen to their station.

We've got one guy wearing a UNC hat and another wearing a Duke shirt in the about us. And it looks like they deleted the tweet to replace it with a reassurance tweet that they are App State sports first. However, the fact they had to even tweet their allegiance says a lot in my opinion.

Re: SportsWrAPP 90.5 WASU
I thoroughly enjoyed the lashing Big C and Alex gave them on twitter.
That one kid wanted to double down and admit that because he had "been a tarheel since birth" that he would wear light blue when we play them in Kennan. Mistake. They deserve everything they got much to the chagrin of the squish station manager or whatever he was.
I kept hearing "tarheel since I was five" and kept thinking but....you didn't go to UNC? Wanted to hit them with the confused Nick Young meme so bad.
Its a simple premise if you didn't go to UNC you "aren't a tarheel."

Was sent this last night w/ a WTF?
These wanna be's just don't get it and it's great they are being called out. What soft underbellies to just piss away their allegiance to their own alma mater...AND ON AN APP STATE UNIVERSITY FORUM!

I don't so much care about the fact these guys own UNC gear or still have love for their childhood teams....but they just got an excellent lesson in professionalism and common sense. No matter how much love they have for UNC you have to be smarter than that. I would've also said media neutrality but their show is on WASU and has APP in the title so it's ok to be a little bias towards your own school. As a sports media member myself I know that you have to temper your own allegiances for the betterment of your show.
In fact, a couple years ago I was part of a panel of WASU grads sitting in and instructing radio students at the university of Georgia. Kid came in with his demo that was SOO homer it hurt. After everyone else on the panel told him how great he was I blasted him for it. I said "if you want to make it in media outside of Athens you're gonna have to learn to control that".

The lack of professional is the most disappointing part of this, I expect more from our students that represent ASU. Imagine the backlash if I showed allegiance to a competitor. It ok to congratulate someone, just took this too far.

remember the grief Ol Roy endured several years ago when he showed up at the Final 4 wearing Kansas gear - one of my friends cancelled his rams club donation the next day ---Saint3333 wrote:The lack of professional is the most disappointing part of this, I expect more from our students that represent ASU. As a fellow WASU alum, I hope these guys understand the lesson to be learned in this case. It is a tough industry and I like seeing App Alum succeed.

They likely learned that tactic from none other than Tyson Summers at GS.Boone Goon wrote:These chuckleheads keep digging their hole deeper. Blocking twitter followers who were critical of them. #TodaysYouth #TodaysMedia

Welcome to being in the media!
Rule #1... Know your audience.
Rule #2... Don't mess with your audience, don't piss off your audience, live, breath and die all things App State - your audience.
Rule #3... "Freedom of speech", in corporate media land, doesn't really exist. You want to "be real", then don't work in the biz. Optics matter - ask your audience.
Good luck... Lesson learned I hope.

Re: SportsWrAPP 90.5 WASU
Funny to me how mad some fans get about stuff like this. I know/know of many college athletes who cheer for a team besides (sometimes more than) the school where they play(ed).

And that's fine. The problem here is that they used an App twitter account to cheer for another team.EastHallApp wrote:Funny to me how mad some fans get about stuff like this. I know/know of many college athletes who cheer for a team besides (sometimes more than) the school where they play(ed).
