Yeah Mountain House lost its appeal when they moved the first time. They lost the charm that helped overcome it's short comings. Sunrise Grill is my go to for breakfast now.

Per a report from the Bushina, "Carolina Pizza" is moving into the old Capone's location and a Vietnamese/Thai/Sushi joint will be filling the adjacent spot.

I'm pretty excited at the prospect of getting a nice bowl of phò on King.

Vietnamese food will be a great add to downtown. Hope they will have better luck than the recent businesses that have opened and closed in that same spot.

Not holding my breath on the left side of that building. Nothing has survived.

Boone has a Publix??? Best damn grocery store chain around, I can't wait until they move east of the Triangle. There's one going up near Surf City that I'll be able to frequent on my way to the boat, but would love to have a Publix close enough for everyday use.

Your opinion might change once Wegmans expands further south.

Sunrise is quite the dive, sharing a building with that sketchy fun park and all. But damn the food is great.

Magic Mountain is the most difficult game of putt putt I've ever played.

What's the story on Tank's Taco's closing after only as few months? I thought it was a cool place with pretty good food...was packed the few times I went, but that was on weekends. I see that owners of Red Onion & TaPP Room bought it.

My theory is that a serial entrepreneur/future serial entrepreneur made tank's to sell.

Maybe, but part of it was that they wanted to open in Oct but didn't until March.
That meant that they only had 2 months when classes were in session to get ahead on the balance sheet. After all the delays, it might have been hard to get through May, June and July with just the Summer School kids and the locals.

And decent Thai. Cha da Thai is the worst thai food I've ever had.

It is going to be a Ramen bar named Gaijin.

Went to the Publix yesterday for first time. Produce sucked. Beer selection meager. Fresh seafood not enough. Not impressed. Satisfied my curiosity. Back to HT for me.

We got one in Hickory that opened late last Fall, I think it was. It's not close to me but while in that part of town one day I stopped in to check it out. Like you I was unimpressed. I have not been back and don't foresee going back. I did however find sport peppers there, and they are not to be found elsewhere in this town. Still, that item is not enough of a draw to lure me back.

I thought one ate ramen so he could afford to go to the bar.

The owner of Tapp and Red Onion is a co-owner of Gaijin. He knows what he's doing. They're trying to open ASAP.

A new "restaurant and lounge" named Eleven80 is going in Primo's old spot at Boone Mall.

MyPho is opening where Trolley Stop on King Street use to be.

Hungry Howie's moved to their new spot near campus this week.

It's not up yet, but the downstairs expansion to Boone Saloon was held up and they had to get a new permit. Should be completed fairly quickly.

Also, Depot Street was paved this past week.

My original post was going to say:

"For the rednecks and the old folks, there's a lot more to ramen than the 10 cent packs that got you through college."
