I'm thinking this is a pretty good bet...hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2017 1:55 pmI'm sure Mark or Double Wood Farm is going to have their name on something in Boone after this.HkyMtneer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2017 6:41 amCall me crazy but I think $10 mil. might be worth a little more than the TIGMA award for the week! I'll be happy to nominate Mark for the quarterly TIGMA. We might have to make that a thing, but a donation like that is worth the effort. So here's to you, Mark, Class of '89...APP State Athletics Santa Daddy 2017!
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Where is his farm listed? Have googled it to death and I can’t find anything. I know zero about horse farms and I don’t see anything listed under Virginia horse farms. Would just like to read something

Probably this

I know a few people in Virginia who have horse farms and are extremely wealthy, the farm is usually a hobby or a side venture and they made their fortunes in market investments.

App has been pursing a public-private partnership on the replacement to Owens. in order to use state money. In fact, there's state money earmarked for the project, $40 million I believe. It's in the UNC system budget.

That property is the only thing I saw that pops up under that name. No horse farm listed anywhere in Virginia. Interesting that the house is listed for sale for I believe about $9m and was bought a few years ago for WAY less. Something oddhotrod2001 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 9:00 pmProbably this

I would assume so. An 8-figure donation would surely have bankers and attorneys involved.

The entire press conference was strange. A person nobody knows anything about and the same line repeated about the horse farm. Hopefully all is good.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 11:27 pmI would assume so. An 8-figure donation would surely have bankers and attorneys involved.

If they don't do due diligence, then everyone involved should be fired and I'm not joking. I would put the chances of no due diligence done at 0.1 percent. That would be checking financial statements, attorneys looking over every aspect of a signed deal, bankers vouching for ability to pay, etc.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2017 11:27 pmI would assume so. Ricks was Director of Global Operations at Mars Inc, which is a $35 billion a year company, 6th largest private company in America according to Forbes. It's not a public company so you can't see how much their execs make, but I would imagine it's in the millions including bonuses and golden parachutes. Horse racing is big money too. You have to be a millionaire to get in it with a degree of seriousness.
We've always wanted Athletics to reach out and try to tap into the wealthy alums and it appears they hit 21 with this one.

Sometimes money comes from other sources than the occupation you have.
I’m not sure why we are so concerned about knowing all the details here versus celebrating the generosity of a family willing to support this program.

I am not interested in any details. That is for our Admin. I just want to know that we did an in depth review to verify the details. Mark being the security business would understand.

Re: Big $$ Announcement Coming
Call me old fashioned but if we can’t raise enough money for facilities that will benefit our donors and fans then we shouldn’t use tax dollars to fund it. If the people benefiting from the new toys aren’t willing to pay for it then why should taxpayers?
