Full Service Hotel

Unread post by Boonegoon » Tue Dec 19, 2017 4:50 pm

Just sitting here counting the minutes until 5 and just got to thinking about a complaint that many of our opponents have about the lack of a "full service" hotel in Boone. Is it just a restaurant that is missing? Would the Broyhill Inn or the Quality Inn ( Sorority Inn now) have qualified? What would it mean to build one?

Full service hotels offer restaurants and / or catering as well as meeting rooms with appropriate AV capabilities. Most Boone hotels do not have sufficient meeting space for a football team.
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.

I have an idea! Just venmo or paypal me if you want to invest. "Introducing the Apple Latch Inn, the area's only full service hotel." We could have a sign every day a team arrives that states "Sorry, this weekend we're having construction projects from 9pm -8 am." We will pay drunk college students to come in and make a bunch of construction racket. This is a win-win. Invest today.

USF stayed at the Courtyard for the December 2 game.

A Basketball team is 25 people. 90% of restaurants can accommodate that with a couple of hours notice. Now a hundred . . .
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Do football teams typically stay in such close proximity to the stadium as a general rule? Do we stay at a hotel the night before a home game?

I think that it depends on travel time. If you are coming in early to practice the day before and then go to game, then you don't want to have to bus players an hour or more to the stadium, practice then bus them back. If you are just coming for the game, then you can stay farther out since you will likely go to the airport after the game. With us no longer in a "bus" league, teams (and us) normally head out earlier and have the final practice at the home venue.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

The Courtyard Marriott serves the majority of basketball teams as they have certain full service needs and allow outside caterers to come in to provide food. Most football teams need larger hotels, hence the Best Western of Banner Elk....most football teams do stay at least 30 minutes away. Football teams need to stop complaining.

Looking back, he wasn't much of a factor, either.

FWIW, the sorority dorm originally opened up as a Sheraton and had a restaurant and separate bar for a while as well as a fairly decent sized meeting room.

When we play Georgia Southern away, we stay in Augusta; or so we did in in 2016.

How long a drive (time-wise) is Augusta from Statesboro?

I grew up in Boone and watched it being built. That was my thought as well, that maybe it would have qualified.

I got thrown out of that bar once.
