Is he saying we all have the opportunity to donate $10 million on an impulse decision?NO.2 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 7:11 amHuge quote. The Appalachian wrote: “All jokes aside, please pay attention. I think he's saying we all have an opportunity to donate back to the university (any amount is great).

As far as how he was able to donate $10 mil....I know and you are going to have to trust me it’s all there and it’s not something we need to discuss. It’s a personal issue.

I know its a student newspaper, but that's poorly written. I hope someone helps her clean up Byers' quote with some better context. I think we can agree he doesn't believe everyone can donate $10M.
Imagine the impact if every alumni gave back $20 a year to Appalachian.

Re: Mark Ricks Athletics Complex
I just took the quote as - even if you haven't been involved/donated before, the opportunity is there (and appreciated) for you to get involved/donate. and/or - even if you've been away for a while you're always welcome home.

I took it the same way but it was poorly written. A learning experience for the author and time to replace the Editor!!!

Re: Mark Ricks Athletics Complex
I just thought it was significant that he had not been back to Boone, but once he saw a game on TV he then felt a need to make a donation.
I wonder how much truth there is to that statement, what his process was with arriving at his donation. I'm sure he didn't go "Bah Gawd Tweetsie Taylor just sealed the game. Honey, get the checkbook out!"

I suspect that our athletic department's first-rate major gift officers (Doug Gillin, Brian Tracy and Suzette Mauney) played a big role in hosting Ricks on campus and encouraging him to get involved. Never underestimate those three folks. They're doing impressive things.
