AppalCART route changes and their impact on campus

Unread post by 8993 » Fri Jun 15, 2018 2:56 pm

The High Country's AppalCART has proposed some pretty major route changes to their service lines around Boone and Blowing Rock. There are a number of interesting tidbits in this article, but a few that should be noted are as follows:

1. State Farm Lot will no longer serve as the parking lot designated for freshmen. Instead, freshmen parking will be moving to the Old Watauga High School lot, which many are now referring to as South Campus. This likely means that lot on South Campus will not be open to tailgating, nor will there be any major development of the lot for the time being.

2. State Farm Lot will now serve as the parking lot for the new Levine Hall, just across from the hospital. Could this allow for more game day parking this fall or more spaces for tailgaters that desire a more quiet and secluded space? I'm not sure yet, but that is a massive lot for only one academic building.

3. Buses will not be going up Stadium Drive anymore, with the upcoming West Campus revamp taking precedent in this scenario. From what information has been shared with me, it looks as if Duck Pond Field will be online for Fall 2018, but will go offline this December, as construction will kick off in that space immediately, alongside the stadium projects that are planned for this year. So, one last season of business as usual for App State football and then we're looking at drastic changes these next few seasons.

4. A positive piece here is that a bus route has been added to Downtown Blowing Rock from July through October, which will be fantastic to have around during peak season this Fall. This bus will service much of Downtown Blowing Rock and help to alleviate traffic and parking issues there, which we all know is a massive issue throughout the High Country.
