The USMC F-18 Hornet and KC-130J that collided in Japan during aireal refueling last Wednesday involved a member of our Appalachian family and one of my closest friends.

He is LtCol Kevin Herrmann and he is one of the five C-130 crew that are still missing. His family is asking for your prayers that he is found.

Kevin and I both joined the Marines out of App just before 9/11. We were together during TBS and flight school. We went to the same fleet squadron in Cherry Point and were in Iraq together.

He is one of us. He reads this board because he loves App and App football. Now, I join his family in asking for your prayers that he is found. Please pray for his wife and three daughters as they wait anxiously for information from search and rescue officials in Japan. Thank you in advance for your support and Semper Fi.

We lost 2 pilots from our squadron (4 total) in 1979. It is so sad within the squadron. Praying for Lt. Col. Hermann's family and squadron.

One of my wife's former students who became a family friend is now a Marine and is being deployed in that region. We went to his boot camp graduation at Parris Island almost 2 years ago and this incident had already gotten our attention on a personal level because of him but now to know a fellow Mountaineer was actually involved is sobering. I'm praying for a miracle...

Prayers and gratitude.

Prayers for this man and his family as well as all of our military around the world.
My view of heaven shows no need for guards of any kind, nor from any branch of service. God will surely provide all of our needs.
I pray for our broken and divided nation, our leaders and our enemies. I pray that God comfort Middle Tennessee after their loss to the Mountaineers next Saturday.

I’ve said my prayers for him and the other Marines. My first glass and toast in New Orleans will be raised in honor of Kevin and his crew. Tuesday night I announce a basketball game. I usually start with a prayer. I will start with a moment of silence for all of them.
