Admissions Advice

Unread post by TheMoody1 » Fri Feb 15, 2019 5:01 pm

I have a friend whose daughter will graduate from high school in June. She has been wait listed for App in the fall and accepted for the spring. I don't have any personal contacts in the admissions office, but thought I would see if anyone here has any advice for what she might do to try to get a fall admission.

I’d recommend a face to face with an admissions rep. ( if she hasn’t already done so), just to put a face with the name, show the enthusiasm, and keep the application at the top of the pile. A polite phone call from time to time checking on the application status wouldn’t hurt either. It’s been a few years but when my son applied we found the admission folks super nice, encouraging, and helpful.

Tbh I’d just tell her to get a job, save up $$$, and live at home during the fall and head up in the spring. That’s one extra football season

She could also take some classes at a nearby community college (assuming she lives near one) in the fall if she can't get fall admission. That will give her a head start as far as credits go.

All the above are good options. Take the SAT again if the score was less than 1100 and choose option 1. Add recommendations from any big donators if known. Hate to say it but money and involvement help.

She will have been assigned an admissions counselor. She should work with that admissions counselor to see what, if anything, she can do to earn a fall admission.

1. Maintain contact with her admissions counselor at App.

2. Enroll in a community college taking core curriculum courses that are fully transferable just as if she was enrolled at App. Check here for transfer equivalency:

3. Join the Yosef Club.

4. Accept an invitation from App74 for tailgating.

5. Go to football games.

6. Move in Spring 2020. Not a beat missed.

I would advise taking advantage of taking some of the general Ed classes in the fall at the local community college. This will allow how to keep up with her friend academically speaking.

Retaking the SAT if her score is <1100 is her best option for Fall admission. Time is running out though. Other options include staff/faculty and Board of Trustees letter of recommendations.

...speaking from recent experience.
