I thought the demo was supposed to take place “mid-February”?

What they meant was "We're just going to put some machinery around there and give the illusion things are happening while we slowly push the deadline backwards"

We are 12 weeks removed from the final home game of the 2018 season or for more perspective 30% of the offseason has passed.

And they don’t even have the track turfed over yet, which I’m not really a fan of to begin with. I just don’t get the rationale here.

You do realize we have men's and women's track teams that will use that track through the spring, right?

I did not, figured they would have already moved them out of there. I guess when you’re just turfing it over you don’t need much time.

We can't "move them out" until there's somewhere for them to go. The 105 property has a long way to go before it's ready for tennis, softball, and track & field to move out there. It's been raining a bit, too, making dirt moving for site prep a little tough.

Also, there will be more done than just turfing over the current track. We'll go from one field that's used by much more than just the football field to some sideline to sideline type practice fields.

All of the changes will happen as quickly as they can be made correctly. Being patient will be helpful.

Looks like wise use of space!

I have no inside info or anything to base this off other than past observations..... I would bet good money there is a fair amount of asbestos in that building and they have to remove that before demolition. I also feel like demolishing a building that size and age is more complicated than taking a wrecking ball to it.

Substantially more complicated than a wrecking ball is what I understand. I've not heard of any potential asbestos issues.

The speed of government.

I expect the finish date to move forward several times as these projects often do. “Ready for the 2020 season” already seems like a long shot. Three months since the SBC Game and they’ve pulled a few trees from DPF and driven a back hoe into the area.

A lot of folks don't realize that buried deep inside the walls of Owens FH are the remains of the old original Conrad Stadium field house. Owens was built around the shell so that may give cause for concern. That building was a part of the original stadium.

I just assumed a building of that age has asbestos fireproofing

That was my thought, too. Asbestos remediation plans are a beast.

I don’t come to a fan message board to exhibit patience lol. But thanks for your info.

So we were told as Yosef Club contributors that the demo of Owens would start December 3, the first Monday after the we hosted the inaugural SBC game. The people announcing the project were well into the building planning stage when the timeline was released, so I'm confident they knew the nature of Owens Field House, whether it had asbestos therein, or any other problems a demo/construction company would encounter.

We were told that the first step in the < two-year construction of the new end zone facility(renderings pictured in the new YC renewal mailer) and removal/covering of our horribly unsightly pink/orange track was the Owens Demo.

Friday is March 1 and Owens still stands. I haven't been to Boone since December, but I haven't seen any pictures or heard anything from friends in Boone to indicate that things are happening inside the structure to prepare for its demolition.

I'm not being an "impatient message board fan" by getting agitated with the stark lack of progress toward something me and other stakeholders have been anticipating for a very long time. I pay a lot of money (in relation to my income) to sit where I sit and watch the Apps play football. Accountability is paramount in a healthy athletic department.

C'mon man, when you let a contract it has a complete by date with penalties. Once awarded the timeline belongs to the contractor. There isn't an accountability issue here.
Photo's are entertaining and appreciated. Otherwise, it's fake news. Move on.

C’mon man what? We’re almost 3 months behind on a major project. My worry, and i know some will be offended by this, is that this will be done half-assed and the stadium looks even more second rate than it already does. This is a concerning timeline to say the least.
