App Grad with an awful idea
Wasn’t sure where else to put this, but had to bring awareness to a bill from one of our alumni. This is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard:

I have absolutely nothing kind to say about this representative, nor his idiotic bill. He is an embarrassment to Appalachian State in more ways than this.
Give 'em hell!

I guess none of you'ns ever had a 10 ft johnboat with 2 oars or a trolling motor that had to be registered. High Rock Lake may be full of liquored up rednecks in pontoon boats, but god forbid a 14 year old kid buy a used john boat from delk's and not have it registered. Anyway, 79% of App grads I meet are idiots, and taxation is theft. Registration is a form of taxation, and that is also theft.

79% is such a specific number.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

In addition to being a bad idea, this feels petty and/or punitive. It’s not like the guy’s a bike infrastructure enthusiast. He’s a Republican (NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT) from a rural county (again, no shade, Alexander Co.). Can’t imagine this affects him or his constituents much.

A boat with oars does not have to be registered, only motorized boats or any sailboat over 14 feet.NoLongerLurking wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 8:56 pmI guess none of you'ns ever had a 10 ft johnboat with 2 oars or a trolling motor that had to be registered. I love it when people make rules but forget the unintended costs such as enforcement. I am president of an HOA board and most of our annual meeting I spend asking people how they plan to enforce their new idea/law/rule.

Re: App Grad with an awful idea
My eyes lit up when someone quoted... but I get this? Come on; any boat can have oars. The motorized HP via an an electric motor can be far greater than the 2.5 HP engine with a self-contained fuel tank that I had in 1998. I guess I shoulda had to register my push mower. Thanks for ruining my night and leaving the taste of bile in my mouth from the triggering of taxation being more of a thief than boater registration.. Dummy dumb head.HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 9:07 pmA boat with oars does not have to be registered, only motorized boats or any sailboat over 14 feet.NoLongerLurking wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 8:56 pmI guess none of you'ns ever had a 10 ft johnboat with 2 oars or a trolling motor that had to be registered. Can you imagine the confusion these weed eater kayak motors would cause?1ASU78 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 9:46 pmElectric trolling motor on a canoe? There's a lot of stupid bills filed every session. Most of them die in committee without ever coming to a vote.

Re: App Grad with an awful idea
Rare post for me nowadays, but still grouchy.
I think that all vehicles, yes a bicycles are vehicles, should have to be registered to be on the roadways.
I have seen too many bicycles blow through stop signs/lights, weave through traffic with no regard for anyone's safety, and about run over pedestrians. All that with no ability to ID them other than they were riding a white Huffy. If a biker cuts across the road in front of me and I have the full right to where I am and I have to swerve to miss them and damage my car, then I should have some recourse and way to ID and report the person.

That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.
