Your wish has been granted! You'll find three new cams located at the link below, one of the entire job site encompassing the new dorms and endzone complex, one zoomed in on the dorm site specifically, and one angling straight down towards the new parking deck. Yet another distraction for our days...Ha!StorminASU wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 9:40 amI drove by there earlier this week and was amazed at the progress on the parking deck. Wow man, that's what I call service! I think there was an understood wish for about $10,000 in that earlier post too...any progress on that?HkyMtneer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 1:53 pmYour wish has been granted! In all seriousness though, how did you install those that quickly, with that much access to the dorms and whole area?

Re: Appstate Endzone Camera
Ha! No work of mine! I simply saw them posted earlier today on the Facebook page for the "Appalachian State University Physical Plant Department". They post some great photos/etc. from things happening around the physical campus. They're worth a follow. Apparently, these cams were placed by Choate Construction and I'm glad for it!StorminASU wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 3:27 pmWow man, that's what I call service! Re: Appstate Endzone Camera
Interesting to watch the progress. I check the cams every time I check this board. Although I am all about change and have no argument with the additions of dorms(let's face it...Bowie and Eggers are like sleeping in closets!), the realization that the view of the mountain from the West side will be gone is hitting me. At every single game I am awe of the beauty of our stadium as I look up at Howard's Knob. What happens on the field is the most important thing though. Oh well...Just a little sad but here's to progress.

Re: Appstate Endzone Camera
Even though they won't be tall enough to totally obstruct the view it still won't be all the nice looking. Owens obstructed nothing. So any obstruction will be a negative on visual appeal. The Knob will still be in the background but it will be just that now, background. Background to a huge 4 story building. It will no longer be a visual feature.
I went up yesterday for a visit and walked all around campus. Standing at ground level and looking back towards the knob gives a very good perspective of how obstructive those dorms will be.
I stopped by Macado's for lunch and was able to walk right in to a fairly empty restaurant. I walked down the street and the new local joints were packed. Good sign for the locals, bad sign for a king street staple of Macado's.
Lots of new or recent construction all over Boone. Even the hole in the wall motel beside Kingswood condos has finally been torn down with new construction going up. Walking by places that no longer exist physically or have been taken over by something else has become the new norm. With high rises going up all over the place and the city itself becoming more crowded by the year I honestly can't say App would have been alone at the top of my college list if I were picking again right now. UNCG among others have created some very nice campuses without going to high rise buildings everywhere. I understand land is obviously an issue but its a nostalgic shame that it has to happen.
Its a fascinating time for Boone and App.

Re: Appstate Endzone Camera
We're tearing down four buildings that are over 10 stories tall, and replacing them with buildings that are only 4 or 5 floors. Seems like we're moving away from high rises....?
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

There is a great architectural rendering of the finished project on pages 16 and 17 of the Appalachian Magazine that just came in the mail.

Re: Appstate Endzone Camera
The newest building next to the student union (summit hall 12 stories I believe) is in the double digits. My reference to high rises isn't just for the App campus, it includes the city as well. Between Wendys and campus there have been multiple multi story complexes built. I wouldn't say App is moving away from high rises. The city will continue to grow and add more complexes around the campus.

That concept image shows quite a bit of additional brick.
University Overlook seems 4 stories.
3 story strip of a building where The Library was.
3 story complex next to hardees
Huge 5 story complex a block long where scotland hotel once was.+section behind McDonalds.
It is what it is. Progress will never end. Just nostalgia.

I guess the next move will be grade it as necessary, bring out earth compactors and then let it settle.

I say that start building now and revise when and IF needed. But get started, blueprints be damned.appgrouch wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 12:44 pmFinal Plans/Blueprints are not in yet.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 8:43 amReady to see some more activity on the NEZ project.
