AAC gets new ESPN deal

Unread post by appst1979 » Wed Mar 20, 2019 8:10 am

Football Scoop is reporting that the AAC has a new 12 year deal with ESPN totalling $1 Billion. Works out to $7 million per team, per year. Not bad for a non power 5 conference.

Kinda puts them in limbo as a league. That will be considerably more revenue than the other G5 leagues get, but considerably less than the P5 leagues get.

That figure hurts to read when you consider 1) what we currently receive from ESPN and 2) how much further ECU can separate themselves from us.

A little less than $500k a year. We’ve got a long way to go.

UCF’s claim to be a P6 team just got a lot more real

The kinda sad part is they’re still sooooo far off from making P5 money. Unfortunately that’s the true separater.

Not really. The lowest P5 full-share payout is just over $24 million per year. This will put the AAC in the $10 million range. I'd love to have that kind of revenue, but there is still a huge gap between the AAC and the P5.

Should be just under $7M/school/year. That's 7-14x other G5 programs, but 3.5x less the lowest P5.

I'd take it, but this should put an end to the "P6" farce.

Yea the gap between P5 and AAC is wider than the gap between AAC and the rest of the G's.

ECU posters seem ecstatic about this deal while others from Cincy, UCONN and Memphis do not. Like you, I'd love to see App get more but to keep this in perspective for App, our AD has never gotten TV money so anything the department gets is considered icing to me. I just want to be able to watch them play when I cannot make it in person.
