as a parent of a student who's team was just cut this hurts. wish they didn't expand the end zone and saved some money.
You made your point in both your posts.
Dont think for a minute these are the last cuts. I know you are upset and as an avid soccer player, referee and fan I hate it but I get it. I have to tell you it bothers me that some choose to join this forum only when a complaint needs to be registered. I hope your son can find a place to enjoy his sport.

Well we can’t cut but one more. At 17, we’re just one over the minimum.

One more sport I was referencing. Not expenses.

Well, we couldn't reasonably expect that our athletics would be immune to the same things plaguing many others.
Exactly. And I know we have had good men's soccer teams before but I never thought we needed those sports. I would say get rid of volleyball and tennis but apparently a rich booster is funding those.

This is exactly why playing football is so key. I hate for these athletes to lose these chances but having football money and student fees pays for those sports. If we don't have the same revenue it only makes sense to get rid of some. Football will be the last sport to cut budget or only have minor cuts compared to the rest because they are the money machine and our best program. If anyone does not like it then please donate to fund those sports. I'm sure we would re-start the programs if we have the money to do so.

My guess is that it’s not out of the woods yet...and it’s the cheapest to operate.

That would put us at only 6 men's sports and at the bare minimum for FBS.

UCONN ran a $40m budget deficit last season alone....

I doubt we will be the last school to make tough decisions

It looks like they targeted Men’s teams....I am glad Wrestling made the first round of cuts. I could see the wrestling program paying for itself if we can keep the coach. They seem to be drawing crowds.

With the success wrestling has it'd be foolish to cut that

I'm interested to know the rationale for cutting men's ITF. The cost factor of doing so seems negligible. The scholarships, roster size, coaching staff, etc will effectively stay the same. You're saving 2.5 months worth of entry fees, food, hotels, but that's about it. The men travel with the women so we aren't even saving on charter buses. I can see it hurting recruiting, especially for the non-distance runners on the team who don't get a cross country season. By my quick estimation, this will save maybe $50k at most.

I'm at a complete loss on his one. If anyone has any wisdom please fill me in. Regardless, it's a tough day and I salute all of the men's soccer and tennis players who gave their all for App State!

Golf doesn’t move the needle enough to cut it.

Wrestling essentially funds itself with its camps. With no camps this year, they will need some help but it is too successful to cut it.

Just for the sake of transparency, who is running this gofundme and why should we send money there as opposed to Yosef Club?

Definitely not challenging you, just curious!

It was Tweeted out by Ethan Joyce. That’s all I know. For further details you need to ask the person who set it up.

Baseball is a bigger money drain than those other sports, but administrators like baseball so it wasn’t going.
Don’t underestimate the impact this will have on men’s outdoor track and field. Their scholarships literally were just cut in half since athletes did both indoor and outdoor

Tough decisions have, and will have to be made. I'm just glad we have an awesome AD with integrity making those calls.
As for what we can do, we can all give whatever we can to the Yosef Club right now. Whether $10 or $10,000, EVERY donation helps. We have been spoiled by the amazing success of our football program, and this is a wonderful opportunity to give back and say thank you to all our student athletes. Don't get all caught up in the levels or rewards; just give from the heart to the university and athletic program that has allowed us to hold our heads a little higher every day and has called national attention to our alma mater we love so much.
If Kyle Busch can sing our praises and promote our university from the winner's circle, can't we, as alumni and fans do our part and contribute whatever we can? I know the times are uncertain right now, and we don't even know what the football season will look like, but if you've been waiting to make a contribution to the best university and student athletes in the state, NOW is the time.

Don't know why what I typed last night didn't show up. User error.

The gofundme page was tweeted out by Ethan Joyce. I just copy and pasted it here. The page is set up by a former App baseball player.
