I am truly concerned we won't see college football this fall - We all know the ACC will buckle to ND but I wouldn't - JOIN the ACC in all sports or good luck scheduling 10 games

I see two scenarios.
1. They cancel and be done with it.
2. They start and within a matter of weeks its over because of the outbreaks that will happen.

Unfortunately, I agree.
I do have moderately more hope should they postpone football until spring, only because there’s at least a chance we’ll have a vaccine by then.

Yah it's very unfortunate but I don't see a scenario where college football happens this fall. So many variables at play. I think with Pro sports the various league situations (some in playoffs, money involved, fewer players, etc) mean those are more likely to occur.
If I were basketball teams I'd already be planning on a likely move to a spring conference only slate.

The hell of it is, with the conference games only schedule, the P5 just broke the G5s neck, without caring. No money games that are the lifeblood of the existence of all sports for G5s. How many millions of dollars and percentage of the athletic budget for schools like APP, just vanished. Look for, G5 jobs will be lost, more non revenue producing sports reductions coming. Ah yes, "the new normal", gotta love it, whichever side you pull for.

There will always be haves and have nots. We never were in the haves though we certainly have tried our best to become one. It was at least sustainable before the pandemic hit, now that rug has been pulled out fully. Hopefully, this pandemic will be a relatively short term thing (another year or two) and we will see what life is like on the other side. I would not be shocked if the end result is the G5s are forced to form their own subdivision and the split that has always been there but we try to ignore it is made solid.

It's worse now because the program cuts are coming that before were supportable with "sizeable" crowds, a full schedule and a likely bowl game, and the big P5 paychecks over the years. This is deeper and wider and will be felt throughout Pete Gillen's world and right on down King Street.

was reading the same thing from the ECU board yesterday, including this quote:
"I think what is likely to happen is we will play an eight game conference schedule only in the spring probably starting the last week of February or the first week of March ending at the end of April. But if you have no football played at all I can just about guarantee you that group of five conferences will realign and we will be playing in a regional conference with Marshall Old Dominion Appalachian Charlotte etc."
Those guys are in severe economic shape with the athletic department.
"I think we would eventually get over it and build local rivalries but we would certainly have to swallow some pride and tuck our sword between our legs and support our university against the likes of Charlotte, App, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, Marshall, Georgia southern, Georgia State, southern Miss, etc."
There was a really nice post about us but I don't see it right now, I'll look later.

Just wondering out loud, but what do the Power 5s gain from forcing the Group of 5s into a lower tier?

Off the top of my head:
1. Power and Control
2. A smaller pie to split
3. Eliminate Embarrassment of losing to "smaller" programs, of being outranked by "smaller" programs and of being out-recruited by "smaller" programs
"Power" 5 says it all.

We all know that if Notre Dame doesn't get to have a football season, the NCAA will cancel the whole thing.

I am not necessarily for Bail-Outs and Government Supplements, but will there be a lifeline extended by the state or federal government?

They would probably push for a higher number of scholarships, this making the gap larger. Plus, they would be in even greater position control the TV side, because the networks would line up even harder to get all those games. FCS 2.0 all over again.
They may even completely try to break away from the NCAA and really take control.

That is a worst-case scenario but I think was inevitable when the G5/P5 designations were created. COVID may speed that along but I don't think it is the singular cause. The Big East split made that gap even wider. The big east was always a bridge because they weren't the SEC in football, but they did compete every year in basketball. When it truly folded and the ACC took most of the top basketball schools and then they split and created the new big east of basketball schools and the AAC with the football schools that just solidified the divide. That was the last real stepping stone to get into a P5 conference. I think a future conference realignment will be kept between P5 conference with the exception of schools with a lot of history who may still have a shot like a Uconn. Yes I know they are not a football power but they can hang with 6-6 and then compete in other sports. They are just an example. I am glad we made the jump to G5 when we did because our programs might be up a creek right now if we were still FCS.

And here is the inevitable future. I give the NCAA another 10 years at best.

It’s more so about the Power 5 wanting to breakaway from the NCAA, while also leaving behind schools, who for the most part, simply will never truly compete with those schools and/or will never contribute anything significant financially.

The good that could come from all of this is a regional conference realignment.
