Re: Down Goes Justice
A good number of you posting resided in Justice in the ‘70s. Same here—‘74-‘76. Great times, for sure. My older son, now a Junior, lived there his freshman year. Really cool

Re: Down Goes Justice
Spent fall qtr '62 on 3rd floor-south wing Justice...three to a room...and near-top of wait-list for availibility in Newland. Got the nod just after Thanksgiving break and jumped at the opportunity. Not a big fan of Justice, but gotta give her mega-kudos for 70+ years of sheltering App students from those nasty Jan-Feb-Mar northwest winds and sideways sleet and snow!
BTW appfanjj, sadly in my time ladies were allowed to cross Kraut Creek only on home football Saturdays.

Snow used to blow in under the windows, Chuck. Do you remember?

First, I’m going bald, and now THIS!!! This is where I was when I first heard Sgt. Peppers! This is where I spent plenty of blissful hours watching boy ducks chase girl ducks on, what we called then, the “Frog Pond” This is were I slept while all my 8:00 a.m. classes were being held!!!!
Willie and Jon were my roommates. Willie got me together with my, now wife, of FIFTY years!

Lived there for 3 years in the late 70's early 80's.
Anyone remember those clanking radiators every time the heat started up?
And yes, having sinks in your room back in that day was an extra many rooms didn't have.

Re: Down Goes Justice
Lived in Justice my freshman & sophomore years ‘04-‘06. Enjoyed living next to Trivette Hall & this being an all-male dorm. Made it seem like a frat house, including the beer & body odor features!

Re: Down Goes Justice
There were two kinds of people who lived in Justice: those who admitted they peed in their sink at least once...

Re: Down Goes Justice
It did, but I was settled in Newland just as the really heavy snows and strong NW winds were getting cranked up that winter. All the rooms in Newland had alum. storm windows covering the old, wooden, double-hung casement windows. The winds, of course kept the space between the two windows filled with snow/ice from December to late April. Voilà, our in-room 'fridge-freezers--two to a room!NewApp wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 3:11 pmasu66 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 2:46 pmSpent fall qtr '62 on 3rd floor-south wing Justice...three to a room...and near-top of wait-list for availibility in Newland. The always-overbearing Carl Messere was our dorm manager--so we had to get inventive with contraband (beer bottles and cans) before Messere's ex-Marine drill sarge room inspections. One of my roomies had a men's store display-size English Leather cologne bottle. It was a perfect replica, but oversized (half-gallon). It sat out in the open on top of the dresser-drawers to serve as a conversation-piece. Merely *I'm sure* by chance, the amber liquid in the "EL" bottle wasn't English Leather--but Messere never caught on.

Re: Down Goes Justice
"Ma" Bell, a true, proper and aristocratic "Southern belle" if there ever was one, was the residence manager in Justice and she ran a tight ship. Even so, she couldn't be on all four floors at the same time. She had grad school hall counselors on every hall.
High risk coed visitation in the mid-to-late 60's can't be completely ruled out although any coed caught in a men's dorm would have faced suspension for the balance of the school year. That was the standing penalty for men caught in women's dorms outside of visitation hours. It was enforced.

Re: Down Goes Justice
If you want s moment of 8 year ago nostalgia then check out the google maps street view around stadium lot. Seems the last time google drove through was June 2012. Winkler still stands.
I lived in Frank. We had sink shaped urinals in our rooms with 2 wardrobe closets, a set of bunk beds, and one window. Freshmen year happened, or so I'm told.

Here’s a construction update on new dorms “thunder hill and raven rock” and destruction of Justice residence hall soon to be called “new river hall”.

Dick Tickle was ours. Used to make out in '60 Ford outside his window.asu66 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 4:10 pmIt did, but I was settled in Newland just as the really heavy snows and strong NW winds were getting cranked up that winter.
