We heard from some friends who've lived up here forever that

1. Woodlands has been up for sale,
2. Peddlin' Pig offered to buy Woodlands
3. Woodlands rejected the Pig's offer
4. The Pig is opening a new location in the old Holly's building on 321

Anyone else heard this? Crazy if true.

We ate at the Pig on 105 Sunday. Had the brisket sandwich. I’ve never had one with thick slabs of brisket before. It was ok. I had loved Woodlands since I was at App over 30 years ago and it was my go to place whenever I came up and could work it in. My wife and I would split the Pig Out. I’ll have to admit (wife agreed) that the last time we ate there it just wasn’t as good.

We've been eating at Woodlands for over 3 decades. I remember how sad we were when it burned down years ago...and how happy we were when they reopened.

On our past few visits, the food was definitely below par. Very disappointed. And even more disappointed they couldn't find anyone to carry the baton and keep it open. Woodlands is a serious part of Blowing Rock/High Country history.

Haven’t dined in at Woodlands lately, but with many restaurants struggling to keep dining rooms open, a lapse in quality might not be surprising. However I have eaten Woodlands at two catered events in the past month, and it was spot on.

As a smoker (of pork and other meats), I have an appreciation of what goes into cooking these dishes. My fellow smokers and "butt rubbers" out there understand the time and energy that go into it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a real labor of love and I enjoy doing it for family and friends. But it is a ton of work to do it at home...I can't imagine having a restaurant where I have to cook and serve it each day.

Woodlands has been going downhill for years now. It was sold last month to the peddalin pig ownership, who is now operating the restaurant. They have cut the menu by half, at least, and raised prices substantially. A chopped pork plate is $13. No more trays. They completely ditched the Mexican menu. It's not Woodlands anymore.

I first went there as a freshman in 1980-81. It's been a hell of a run.

I do not like Pedaling Pig. Their pork skins may be the best thing I’ve had there. Really very good. 1st time I went BBQ not good at all. So no need to go back. Nephew graduates from Appalachian State University and wants Pedaling to celebrate. Not good again by my standards.
Woodlands was good stuff.
