YouTube TV/streaming media and blackouts

Unread post by AppStateMtneer » Mon Aug 23, 2021 2:09 pm

We have recently cut the cord and have been using YouTube TV/Streaming media. I have noticed several Atlanta Braves games blacked out on ESPN. My concern is that the App/ECU game may also be blacked out in my area (Hickory). Do any of you with experience in this know if the game would be blacked out or is there a link somewhere that shows what games will be blacked out in certain areas?

I had YouTube TV for a couple years and never experienced an App game being blacked out. It was usually the Hornets or the Hurricanes for me. At the time I was living in Charlotte.

I do not know about the black out using streaming services but would think that if you used a vpn it would not be an issue. I have used a vpn to watch online in Europe where it isn't available.

You should be able to see the game on YouTube TV. I’ve had it for several years in Charlotte. The Braves/Hornets/Canes games are blacked out because YouTube and other steaming services have been unable to work out a deal with Bally, formerly the Fox Regional networks. So because baseball has such archaic broadcast territory rights, the games get blocked out on National broadcasts and the local fans get screwed. App and the Sun Belt have their partnership with ESPN and not Bally. Hope that helps but the whole thing is convoluted and about money of course.

Thank the Lord for the ESPN networks, especially ESPN+.

I can't recall any App games being blacked out since ESPN+ launched.

Believe you can’t watch the espnU game on espn+ though. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Verizon is giving 2 months free of sling so I plan on doing that next week. But it doesn’t have espnU.

One of the features that sold me on YouTube TV was the unlimited DVR recording it allows. You can record every program you want if you choose to do so and have access to it for 9 months. The process is also very simple. For example, I can do a search in the app for App State Football and click Add and it will allow me to either record our games every time they come on YouTube TV or just do a one time record for an individual game. I like the first option so I can set it and forget it and not wonder if I did it while I’m at The Rock watching us Give ‘em Hell and Kick Ass!
