Site Running Slower
Is anyone else finding this Yosef's Cabin site to be running slower than usual and getting the Resource Limit message occasionally?

Re: Site Running Slower
There are like 200 browsing at 7am. I’m guessing bots and that may be slowing it down. Seems we have a wave of bots occasionally.

Re: Site Running Slower
I've been getting the message when trying to log on at various times throughout the day. I started noticing it on Tuesday and it hasn't improved.

So can we not support 200 concurrent connections? I’ve been having issues for a week now. What do you need? Money?

Re: Site Running Slower
It's been a thing forever, but has been really bad for over a week. The site is almost unusable. I'll be glad to donate but there has to be a way to remedy this issue.

Re: Site Running Slower
It may be what those bots are doing that are killing it right now. But usually during a game or something I don't think we even have 100 users on, so having over double that (currently 235 that I see) is causing issues. I'm not high enough on the totem pole to know the details of the issue(s) or what is needed to upgrade.

Re: Site Running Slower
The problem is one of two things -- potentially both.
1) The web host does not have enough resources to support the connections. I offered to help with that in the past and was accused of trying to stir the pot. I no longer can help with it as I sold my web hosting business.
2) The site is built in open source phpbb. With it being open source, if it's not kept updated, it's very easy to "attack" and run scripts on the servers. The users of the site are generally safe when this happens, but running the scripts on the servers obviously takes bandwidth causing slowness for us.
I don't know how often the code base is updated, so I don't know if that is an issue. My guess (and strictly a guess) is both of the above is happening -- mainly because of number 2.

Re: Site Running Slower
It is getting to the point of too annoying to look at. Literally, everytime I click on a thread I get the message and have to refresh, then if I try to post I get another message, then when I finish the thread and want to go back to the main menu I get the message again. I literally can't make any move without first getting the message. It really is getting frustrating.

Re: Site Running Slower
Having the same problems getting on the site myself. For the past few months have also noticed the site doesn’t look right on my laptop using Google Chrome browser until I login. After that it looks okay.

Perhaps after all of that high tech IT stuff gets corrected someone could see what happened to the filter that prevented really stupid threads and comments from posting, most of which lead to useless never ending arguments. Not sure if it’s possible to prevent that stuff but it would be nice.

I’m done here until further notice. Just too frustrating. Waited over two minutes to post this.

Re: Site Running Slower
May have to set the site up to where you have to have an account to be on it. The first thing you come to is a login screen.
Currently 52 users. 4 registered, 1 hidden, 47 guests. Eliminating the guest would probably eliminate many of the bots. The downside is that it would force casual readers to make an account instead of reading only.

I don't do the technical stuff, but I have contacted Yosef to see what we can do to fix this.

Re: Site Running Slower
It’s likely bots crawling the site for keywords and email addresses and any type of PII. Those scripts are memory hogs. The login only idea is an interesting one, I’d be all for it.
Give 'em hell!
