My daughter (graduates from high school in May) has finally made her college decision and will be a new Mountaineer next fall. We're going up Saturday for a freshman open house and the spring game. It's a very good day for this Mountaineer!

If my memory serves me correctly, she has known for a long time that Furman sucks too!

Same here. Tomorrow is my birthday and my 11th grader son is going to the App open house and then the spring game. We have done plenty of other college visits but I think tomorrow will seal the deal for him. Especially, if he wants me to pay for it. ;)

I have a daughter who will be going into 9th grade next year. She and one of her best friends are already planning to room together at App. :D Since both of you have recently gone through the process, what type of grades and test scores secure acceptance into App? She does very well now but I just want to make sure she has everything together by the time she applies. I can't believe we are getting close to thinking about it! (PS I bet it is a lot harder to get in now as to when I did back in 1985)

My wife is a hs guidance counselor. SOOOOOOOOO don't ask anyone on this board, go see your counselor or query ASU Admissions. I do know that they put way too much weight on SAT scores verses grades and rank. My wife had two kids accepted to NCSU and deferred at ASU. While the admissions office has gotten better the process is still way too slow. They will let deferred kids know by April 28 and deposits are due May 1. And congratulations to DAD!!!

The answer is no. During the application process you're prompted with a question asking "which school sucks?" If you don't answer with Furman you're put on a waiting list, in which you have to write an essay explaining all the reasons why Furman sucks. This is why everyone at Appalachian knows - FURMAN SUCKS!

A good friends daughter has a 4.23, ranked 50 out of 420+, all kinds of service work and clubs, accepted everywhere else she has applied... She was differed until this past week when she got the news she's been accepted. App is the ONLY school she wanted to go to. It's tough for sure, either 11,000 or 14,000 applications? for less than 3,000 openings...

whoops, edited to say congrats to Chris on your daughters decision!
