Job Description
The Learning Assistance Program, a division of University College at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina is seeking a Director of Academic Services for Athletes. This position provides leadership, advocacy, and coordination of the academic support services and academic advising for Appalachian student-athletes. In addition, the Director supports and coordinates collaborative work with the Athletic Department, academic departments and dean’s offices, and other offices and departments within the campus community to support the academic environment for the success of the student-athlete. The Director supervises the professional staff of Academic Services for Student-Athletes and reports to the Executive Director of the Learning Assistance Program. Major responsibilities include: supervision of the staff of the Academic Services for Athletes, serve as academic advisor to student-athletes, coordinate annual reports for the University and the NCAA, conduct recruiting meetings, as requested, maintain communication of University policies and procedures to staff, attend meetings with the Athletic Department and Athletics Council, budget development for program, and other duties, as assigned by the Executive Director

Requirements
A Master’s Degree in College Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Sports Management/ Administration, or related field and five - eight years of experience working with college student-athletes in an advising role. Administrative and supervisory experience, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated organizational skills are a must. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create partnerships across campus are essential. Commitment to and compliance with the University’s and Department of Athletics’ policies and procedures as well as Conference and NCAA constitutions, by-laws, legislation and regulations is required.
